I've contemplated getting one of these grips for my R-D1 too, but on the hand I think I like the protection of a half-case better then the comfort of a grip.

Likey likey. very much! As for stealth, well the hand will be covering it up when shooting. Who gives a hoot? I've made my own out of hardwood, as a stop gap until I can make a decision on whether I will be getting the black or the red one. I want to see what my R-D1 will look like with Verdigris kid goat skin cameraleather (when it gets here).

they are different beasts, very different shooting experiences.
i like both but usually use the rd1 for most of my shooting.
i like the g1 for easy shooting, the auto focus etc.

Joe, you have a gorgeous family. Probably the red grip is better than having red leather covering because if you get tired of it you can always retire it for awhile. I notice the skin on both your bodies is the Vulcanite. Is that from Cameraleather?

did morgan @ cameraleather custom cut you a template for the R-D1? Nice grip. I upholstered my R-D1 with the red standard.. now I've got me a luigi half case with grip and love it...
