Pre War Uncoated LTM lenses....wow

I recently purchased 2 pre-war uncoated lenses from RFF members and I want to share some test pics using garden variety Fuji Superia 200 color film scanned on my v500.

The First is a 9cm prewar Elmar (black) wide open (f4). I have never seen OOF images quite like that. The second and third are from a lens that Brian Sweeney did that is a prewar Zeis Jena 1.5 converted to LTM using a J3 body. The pics were taken at wide open (1.5). Again uncoated and just wonderful soft color.

I know I used to consider my uncaoted lenses for B&W only but I have to admit I love the results using these beautys with color film.

wow, that's some wild OOF on the elmar! Not quite swirly, but sorta reminds me of pics taken while zooming an SLR lens. The sonnar shots are characteristic classics of the older uncoated lenses. Also, looks like Brian got the focus spot on.

Wow, that first one is crazy. It looks a little like zoom blur (when you zoom a lens during a long exposure).

The Zeiss does have wonderfully smooth out of focus areas.

I know I never saw an OOF like that Elmar....the member that sold it told me it would blow me away but I didn't really expect that. It will be a fun lens to use for sure....and Brian does get it right for sure!

The uncoated Elmar can make any color film look like Kodachrome from the 1950s.

The uncoated Sonnar 5cm F1.5 is my favorite lens. They are amazingly sharp, and the color rendition is unique. The only way to get one in LTM is to make it. It's not hard to do, but acquiring a Contax mount Sonnar and a good J-3 focus mount takes some time.

The old uncoated Soviet Industar-10 (Elmar look-a-like, but more Tessar than Elmar) does great things in colour too:

Lens dates from 1935. Shot on Fuji Cine film, tungsten balanced, ISO 500

Beautiful Z Kat. I also have an uncaoted Fed (Elmar 3,5) knock off that I LOVE. I use it with a medium blue filter in B&W and it gives me great old-timey looking shots.

Interesting. The OOF area of the OP's first pic looks a lot like the VR dance you see from the Nikkor vibration reduction lenses.

You mean people actually pay a sh*tload of cash to have a plastic AF lens mounted on an evil kingsize DSLR and it produces shots like that great Elmar shot?

I cannot decide whether that's brilliant, pathetic or just plain stupid!
