Wondering if anyone has experienced this - I recently purchased a G1 (my second). Got a test roll back and everything looked good. A few rolls later, some of the roll is out of focus. Not user error (when the focus is not where you want it to be or the manual focus set at one point), but no focus at all, set at the closest distance. Using the camera, it seems to give no indication of the problem (I see the focus change distances in the viewfinder display).
What is most confusing is that the problem seems to start and stop (half of one roll ruined, then second half of is fine). I figure this is not the lens itself (which has never given me problems on the other body), but the camera body.

Only time this has happened to me, I didn't have the camera on AF...

This happened to me with an entire roll of film I shot with my G1 in Uruguay. I had some real winners on there, too. Everything not focused at infinity was completely out. Sent it to KEH for a repair and that did the trick. Very frustrating, however...

It's strange - it happened for me on about 2 rolls, then (without realizing there was a problem) I shot perhaps 15 more rolls. The subsequent rolls have a few out out of focus shots, perhaps at the normal contax G rate, but nothing like the original rolls. Lens was changed between 28mm and 45mm a few times.
I'm thinking it was: a. the lens was somehow not properly mounted. b. I was walking around like an idiot with my finger over the AF assist light. (Will the camera focus with the AF assist light covered?).
Joe - the weird thing about my problem was even infinity didn't seem in focus. How much did KEH charge?

Hi, got a similar problem, once i focus then i push the shutter button and there starts some low noise like dragging mechanical parts it takes a few senconds like this then it shots, but the pic gets out of focus.
When shot to the min distance it happens always, with 90 mm it happens more and with 28 less. Focus more than 4 meters it stops!
I think it´s some trouble in the motor that comands focus.
Hope there´s any mean of fixing it!
menawhile i got my 3rd body hping not to get taht issue!
Bye!
