My experience is limited to 50 crons, 50 pre-asph, and 50 Lux ASPH. I recently acquired a 35mm Canon f/2 Black I'm impressed with and thought there might a good (or great) 3rd party 50. Hitting the streets with $10K of gear all the time isnt something I relish. Thanks.
Nikkor 50/2 - Sharp
Nikkor 50/1.4 - OK, nice bokeh, @1.4 center is sharp, f2.8 onward everything is sharp
Canon 50/1.8 (Serenar?) - Sharp wide open
Canon 50/1.5 - No idea
Canon 50/1.4 - ok-ish, not very sharp
Keep things in perspective. There's sharp and there's Summilux ASPH sharp.
Or, there's sharp for the bucks. I like the Nikkor 50/1.4. Someone here suggested using it about 1/3 stop from wide open. Big improvement. A very nice, very compact, 43mm filter lens. Solid as an anvil. The Life photographers were right. Great lens. Very good value for money.
Best bargain in the sharp/fast for the price equation - the Canon 50/1.8 (either the chrome, or the black versions). Excellent performance, and frequently found under $150.
CV Nokton f/1.5. I almost bought one and still cannot say if I made a mistake in getting a Hexanon f/2 instead. I had, for 17 happy hears, the Serenar f/1.8 which has been mentioned.
