Design your ideal digital camera!

I was thinking about this while at work this morning - what would my ideal digital camera be?

So quite seriously, and taking into account what it would cost (and if you could afford it), what would be your ideal digital camera? Mix and match, swap and change. Maybe a manufacturer will find this thread and get some ideas 🙄

My 2 would be:

1.
Olympus e-620 body
5d mkII sensor
35mm full frame zuiko digital PRIME lenses

2.
Zeiss Ikon body
Sony a900 sensor (zeiss and sony are in bed together after all)
Zeiss lenses

Imaging à la William Gibson: (a) "Eye-resolution" implant; (b) Eyeglasses with same. Shortest distance between inspiration and image.

Closer(?) to reality: FF sensor, sensitivity of Nikon D3s, resolution of D3x, body of Leica M/Hex RF, upgraded metering, light-speed buffering, and nothing else.

Now...off to bed, before I think of anything else to get me in trouble.

MP body, control, size. No LCD.

You program ISO, color, and all other digital aspects on your computer, and store that data in your SD card. So you can swap the cards like film rolls, and you can switch "Neopan 1600" or "Velvia 50" as you wish.

If that comes out at same price as film MP, I'll buy one in a heart beat.

-No larger than an FE2/FM3a for with all the same features and nothing more for an RF the Ikon specs, but with a 1/400th shutter
-It only shoots JPG
-No LCD, no color, WB, etc adjustments on the camera. You set all of that with different film-like profiles on your computer before you leave
-1 week worth of battery life
-No autofocus
-Good ISO 50-6400

First of all, it would not replace my film bodies, but would be used for other things and snaps just for fast digital printing and web sharing.

Would be a cheap M9, less megapixels and without LCD, but WITH autofocus option.

A MP with a D3s sensor and no vignetting? There's no fun if I can afford it.

First of all, there's no substitute for a good film-shooting Leica M.

But if I could design a digital, it would have the same exact dimensions and thickness as the Leica M6. It will utilize autofocusing lenses on a bayonet mount like on the Contax G2. The LCD will be tiny (1.5" wide) to fit in the back (we can view the images better on a pc anyway); and the LCD cover glass will be sapphire. Metering will be TTL. Shutter will be titanium, made by Copal or Seiko. The camera will be made of brass. Covering will be Griptac. Finish will be black (to wear away to brass). The top plate will be engraved with the company logo and serial number. The FF CMOS sensor will be detachable, so the user can use micro 4/3rds, IR (unfiltered), or DX-type sensors. ISO from 100 to 6400 without noise. 5 fps with ample buffer. EV adjustments + & - 2, on the collar of the shutter speed dial. Camera can do DNG & TIFF.

I think, as others have stated here, an M8 or M9 body with a D3s sensor would be ideal.

As Leica (or rangefinder) shooters - low light is extremely important and the fact that we've got such great legacy glass to shoot with and an all-manual camera would make it an ideal photographer's tool.

R-D1 ergomics with better RF focusing, M-mount, 15/28/35/50/75/90 framelines. D3s internals, 5000 clicks on one battery. Liked the idea of pre-programming SD cards with favourite settings for different occasions, but as an option.

Looking at the Panasonic 4/3 GF1 started me thinking. Nikon, Leica, and other lens can be used with this camera via adapters, so why not a similar full frame box? With a bit more effort with the adapters and firmware you could potentially use the aperture and focus control of the other manufacturer's modern lens.
