I ordered this scanner many months ago. By the time Adorama shipped I was buried in work. Two months later I've got the scanner setup, software loaded and 6x7 film in scanner per instructions. Preview partially moves from image one to two, so I use eject in Nikon software. The 9000 starts making a racket and after a couple of minutes I get it figured out that it is broken out of the box and the scanner has my negatives. Nikon technical help says ship it in. I now have to use Nikon warranty , but recently I spent a small fortune shipping my 1DMkiii to Canon for CLA.. almost $100 at UPS store.
Where do I get the best generally available shipping rate for a box of this size insured for $2K? USPS, FedEx, or directly with UPS..not the UPS stores?
Thanks...

Looks like the holder has popped open inside the scanner, and because of that cannot be ejected. This is quite a common situation with the 8/9000. Just remove the metal cover, close the holder inside the scanner and you should be up and running in no time.

I use US Postal Service, and would never expect to pay that much. I avoid United Package Smashers. I think they are a rip!
Good luck with the fix sahe69 has suggested!

The link to the fix for the film holder popping open sounds right, but I'm not going to risk the warranty loss should they decide that I opened the thing and caused the damage. After warranty is up, I'll happily open it up.
How do you avoid the film hold from opening when inside?
The UPS rate that killed me was the insurance. The shipping wasn't the problem. I have shipped items from time to time for years and I have never seen such highway robbery. Is USPS Insurance reasonable?

I'd say their insurance is reasonable. You can run the postage calculator and check the "add insurance" box to see how much you want to insure and what they charge.

That worked great. Came in under $55.00, so not so bad. That is the last time that I will wait two months to fire up a new purchase.
I hope there is a fix to stop this from happening again.

Just make sure it really snaps into place when you close it and feed it in the scanner.
