Looks like a whole host of other things, if this photo represents what it appears to represent. Printers, copier, projector, fibre optic camera, etc.
Seems like Ricoh may have been impressed by some of BugLabs modularity concept.

Actually, I think its more accurate to say that the one think this system lacks is lens interchangeability. Its more like two fixed lens cameras that share interchangeable backs and accessories.
There are two cameras, one projector, and one HD storage unit that share a common "interface module". The later provides a card reader/writer, LCD display, flash, and human interface for the four main devices.

I am not sure I understand - the GXR is an interchangeable lens system, and the photo linked above seems to indicate that the body of the GXR will also be able to accommodate other devices, not just lenses. Thus the body becomes what you describe as an interface module for lenses, hard drives, projectors, etc.
While the BugLabs device may not be the inspiration for the GXR, the concept is at least similar.
