+1 if you can find one at a reasonable price, buy it. if you don't like it, i'll take it off your hands. i think the f1.7 ultron has a higher price tag in the used market than the 35/1.4 these days
If you can stand to lose 1/2 stop the 35/1.7 Ultron is excellent. (I own both).
Cheers,
R.

It's all about the glow. If you want glow then go with the pre-asph. I can spot a pre-asph picture straight away. I like mine. I only wish it also focused to 0.7 meters instead of roughly 0.9 meters.
In the right light, the 35/1.4 SC "glows", too, just not as much

Cheers,
Roland.

Sorry to hijack this thread a bit..
By 35mm f1.4 pre-asp summilux do you mean the leitz summilux 1.4 35mm ? Or is there one actually labled Leica?
Yes there is. Leica, made in Germany. (I know there is a Leitz, Canada Version too.)

Hi Roland
Hi Roland
Wow, the glow on that book is just like the glow on many 'lux wide open images.
The pre-asph 35 lux also has a subtler glow wide open, lots of micro contrast. I'll try to attach an example. Perhaps the CV does this type of "glow" as well, and I just haven't seen it.

This works just for the SC version, Ted, and back-lighting in this situation was very strong. Maybe 8 stops contrast or more ....
In my experience the pre-asph "glow" (veiling flare) is stronger.

Will have to keep my eyes open for a used SC version and try this out sometime.

Yep. 3 copies, Joe. All gone though. A little harder (OOF & sharper) than the 35, but not by much. I can recommend the SC version there too, great colors on slide film and I imagine on digital, too.
