I recently fixed up a bunged-up Zorki 3, the one with Leica III-like slow speeds controlled by a knob on the front. I removed and cleaned the slow speed escapement, as these were not working at all. The escapement has a slider on the top that varies the amount of engagement of the escapement, thereby providing slow and fast modes of the escapement. This function is used in the Leica slow speed escapement of which this is a copy to differentiate between the 1/10, 1/5 speeds and the 1 sec and 1/2 speed, found on either side of the 1/25 position in the centre.
The slow speed dial of my Zorki 3 has a mysterious 1/10 setting between the 1 sec and 1/2 sec settings, but it gives a speed of about 3/4 second. I can find no sign of any part that engages the slider at the top of the escapement to make the 1/10 work. This particular camera unfortunately requires almost complete disassembly to get at that part of the works. My question to the group is if anyone has found that 1/10 position to be functional. If it is, I'll need to dig into the guts of the thing to find and engage that gearshifting mechanism, I guess.
Just in case there isn't enough controversy on the page at the moment, I had a Zorki M3 all to bits at about the same time as the 3, and had to take it completely apart to get the shutter working properly. I can't tell which I like better, the Leica-ish 3, or the 3M which is the precursor of all the later Zorkis. Opinions?
Cheers, Dez

1/10 sec. on my Zorki 3 works properly. If 1/2 and 1 sec.
are timing out correctly, you might check to see if someone
has failed to properly engage a lever on the inside of the front
shutter cage plate with the left side of the sliding lever on the escapement.
I think you can check this out by just dropping the
shell - as you can with a Leica.
At 1/10 sec., I believe the 2nd curtain delay is governed
solely by contact between the cog on the main shutter shaft
and the 'foot' at the top of the slow speed shaft. In other words,
at this speed the escapement should be disengaged.
