Now that I have my initial problem of my R-D1 licked, I am starting to look at rounding out the outfit:

Has anyone had experience with the CV 50mm f.25 Color Skopar?

This lens, along with my CV 25/4 will make a nice travel system. Maybe one day adding a 15mm to round it out.

It's a handsome lens, and well built as most people indicate.

It performs great on B/W. Color rendering is too modern for my taste.

This lens is easy to live with. I have had some very nice results with it and wouldn't get rid of it. I agree with the other poster who said that this lens may be underrated.

im my experience, the cv 50f2.5 is a better lens than the original Elmar f2.8. from images i've seen on the web, i think it competes well with the new version Elmar 50 f2.8. definitely under-rated by many.
 
I have the lens too. And though I'd like a faster 50, I will not be getting rid of it. It's size and rendering capabilities are plenty good enough for me.
 
I just sold this lens, but definitely agree with the rest that it is under-rated.
If only it is f2, perhaps a lot of us will view it differently. Lastly, mechanically, it is built like a tank!
 
Funny, all these references to superb build quality.

On mine (well, Frances's, really), the focusing mount is wobbly as hell and the focusing finger-grip is all but hanging off.

Great little lens, but I can't second the views on build quality.

Apart from the focusing-tab, which is a polycarbonate type plastic, mine actually has a very Germanic feel to it and I’ve been very happy with the pics it takes although I don’t tend to use lenses wide open anyway.
It’s also proper chrome on brass not the silver anodising one gets on most stuff these days.
 
I like mine a lot, and the only reason I'd get another 50 is if I wanted something faster.

I used to have a latest-model Elmar 50/2.8 too, but I wasn't using both 50s, and after a direct test I decided I liked the Skopar better - the Elmar had a bit too much contrast for my kind of shooting.

I use it for b/w more than anything, but I do occasionally shoot colour slides with it, and I'm really happy with the results.

Mine is tight and well put together. Shows no sign of bad manufacturing. I rather like all my CV's but the Hexanon is even better in that respect. They all however beat my, and most other SLR lenses I've seen hands down, both optically and build quality wise.
 
I ordered one today, I'd really like if people could share more shots taken with it... Incredibly hard to find examples of it's out of focus rendering and apparent sharpness.

Beating the new Elmar is quite a challenge. I would love to see some pics from this lens.

I think the R-D1's in-camera JPEG engine uses aggressive noise-reduction, so detail may be a bit obscured. Here's the same photo, with simple exposure and contrast adjustments done in Epson PhotoRaw, with light NR applied.

Nice pic. I've been using the Epson raw converter for 4+ years in b+w but i tend to use Capture One more and more now. Default NR and sharpening settings are OK up to 1600 iso generally. Here @ 200 iso with a bit of grain added through Silver Efex. New Elmar. Larger file here
