does logic rule or get punted?

I find that if I have a lens that is getting dusty on the shelf and not being used, I send myself out "on assignment" with one camera and that very lens in order to re-acquaint myself with it. There is a reason that I got the lens and I like walking around & finding that reason.
I find myself doing this a lot with my 35mm Summaron f/3.5. It's slow, flares a lot and is older than my Canon 35mm f/2. Logically, I should get rid of it seeing as I have another 35 but this Summaron is amazingly sharp in the right condiditons. It's a TINY lens too so the compactness of it is nice. The way that it draws is very pleasing. With regard to the R-D1, I don't even use 35mm much as I'm always shooting with a 15, 21 or 50. I still shoot film with my M4 so the 35mm Summaron works perfectly there but also perfectly on the R-D1, just not the focal length I run to on the digital.

In a nutshell, I've sold most of the gear that I've owned and only regretted the sale of a few lenses and one body. If it's unused and there is not real connection with it, then let it go, but maybe give it a chance one or two days just on one body and see if there could be a reason to keep it.

Joe, how do you find the vignetting on your 21? Isn't it a bit slow for whole day shooting? I mean early morning and late afternoon might be some issues but I'm sure you're pushing to higher ISO when the need arises. I now have my RD1 and the lenses I'll use with it will be my existing M lenses; Ultron 28 2.0, 40 1.4, 40 2.0 summicron-c, 50 2.0 hex. I might need something in the 28-30 equivalent FL so looking for somthing to fit that bill. The 21 will be good but I don't like to have excessive vignetting if it is.

the 21 seems to vignette a it more than the 15 but i like the look.
slow has never bothered me much. on the rd1 i just up the sensor speed.

One more thought: I know you like Zeiss lenses. But also compacts. Have you considered the 25/4 P CV lens ? Those new P lenses are really well built .... You might get some money back in the process and, besides speed, not loose anything.

Cheers,

Roland.

ok rollie, i am on the lookout for a used cv 25 to check the focal length out on the rd1, and keeping the 21 for now.
if the 25 clicks then i'll look for a zeiss 25 if and when i can sell the zm 21.
