I think the MP is the best M camera "out of the box". remarkably smooth. No running in time required.
Enjoy it and let it "eat" film during your project.

congratulation, that's a good idea.
The MP is one of the best M Leica and worth of every cent you've payed.
In a time million of people buy modern DSLR for more the 2000,-- $ a MP seams to that cheap.
Those expensive DSLR are not half the money worth after one year,
your MP will not lose any cent! (if you handle her with care)
If you want a real bargain of 50mm lens, than please take a Leica Summicron (that's f2) and you'll be happy.
In used condition you'll get one for about 400-500 $

Really nice!
I wish you good luck for the project that you are starting (is the grammar of the "goodluck" part ok? I have wrong feeling about that part)

Dear Tom,
Seconded, though I've not tried as many as you have 'new out of the box'. Compared with the ones I have tried (M4P, M6, M6ttl, M7), the MP seems nicest to me.
Cheers,
