paid in full: the mp is here =)

There's actually on sale a mint condition as new Chrome Leica MP at Camera Exchange Melbourne CBD area at 4000 AUD :)

man why do I open these threads

that sounds nice, and up here in Sydney foto riesel have a black MP with a rapidwinder for $4100 AU - looks spectacular

If you want a real bargain of 50mm lens, than please take a Leica Summicron (that's f2) and you'll be happy.
In used condition you'll get one for about 400-500 $

i was thinking about that, too. the focusing bump on the zeiss lenses felt too shallow when i handled them a couple years ago. i wish they had a crescent tab. on the other hand, the current summicron doesn't even have a tab, and i've never really liked the bokeh of the 1980 optical formula. lens angst!

the previous version summicron has a tab, doesn't it? i'm not sure they were made in silver chrome...

I've never a seen a silver one with tab,
I only know black summicrons with tab.
I thought you want to buy a cheap one.

I use a silver 50mm 'cron without tab and that's ok to me.

with the decrease of the price I thought about used MPs,
not new ones

The black tabbed summicron is the same optical formula as the current summicron...only difference is new one has no tab but does have a built in lens hood. Old one had tab, bot needed a seperate hood. If you don't like the bokeh of the corrent one you won't like the tabbed either. I have a tabbed and I personally like it a lot.

Just wanted to say congrats! It is beautiful. We often talk about black painted MP and I love mine, but chrome MP is really classic and classy. It says "THE LEICA" in good subtle way.

My piece of advice; don't ever sell a Leica MP. It was the biggest mistake I've done concerning an object. I'll miss it until I have one again, this time for my whole life.

I was in there a few weeks ago, buying a VC 35mm f/2.5, very friendly place. Happily I have an MP so not tempted, though I did admire their M5.

What is Camera Lane like?

My take on the "running in time" is that the M3 is the best of all M, but the first series were a very lil bit flawed. The later and last M3s are the best cameras in the world. I don't get why people from modern leica cannot come with such an elegant design of their own instead of copying leica techs from the forties.

If the M4 is the only M to have the same build consistency of all M throughout its production time, that means according to Tom A. the MP is smoother than the M4. I never handle an MP but it must be good as the M4 is silky smooth coco!
