I was looking at a used 50mm summicron V4 and was curious what one should expect to pay for the lens in excellent condition
Thanks

I just bought one for $625 at a local camera shop here in Denver, Colorado. I think it was a very fair deal. The glass is exceptionally clean, though there are a few specks of dust inside. There is also a small ding on the focusing ring, but it really doesn't bother me and has no effect on the performance.

I've seen the ver.IV lenses on Ebay for over $1000, which seems way too expensive to me, so I agree with Rafael in suggesting around $600-700 range.

Good luck on your lens purchase.

I was just looking at the Antique and Classic Camera Guide on line and the price for the lens is $900-1200 that is a lot higher than what the members above are quoting??

Mine was $750 at KEH in EX condition. That seemed cheap to me compared to what ebay and other camera shops online were asking. I saw one at a local camera shop for $550 but it had a wobbly barrel, despite looking nice. I don't regret paying the extra for a perfect functioning one.

$600-700 is the going rate for a very clean one free of optical and mechanical issues and may have minimal cosmetic blemishes. The clip-on hood may add another $75 to the price. Add about $100-200 for an un-coded current version with the built-in hood. A 6-bit coded current version should go for about $900-1000 if fairly clean. These prices are about what they go for on this forum.

With the increases on Leica's new equipment, the prices on used lenses have commensurately been rising rapidly. One 50 Summicron, Version 4, sold on eBay recently for $970 with a S/N about 35XXXXX.
