"Flim? You want flim?"
This coming weekend I have to attend the opening reception of the Capitol Hill Art Workshop Photo Exhibition in DC, because one of my photos was selected. Besides, it is supposed to be arctic-cold here for the entire weekend. Who can shoot with numb fingers?

Have a good trip, Jim. There should be lots of snow up in DC.
I was cheated out of Pensacola Snow! It was supposed to snow last night, and I prepared my camera bag for the special occasion. It is cold ... but no snow. I will have to accept cold weather and no snow but white sand beaches.
What are you guys up to?

Trying to keep warm and walk about without breaking my neck. Uk is snow bound at present with temps as low as -22 in places. Country always grinds to a halt in such conditions.

It is 20F in Pensacola, and it does not fee like "Florida Sunshine" anymore.
I will drink some hot black tea and enjoy getting warm for a while.
Photography may have to be done indoors and at some window.

This afternoon I'm doing the second in a series of studio shoots I'm working on where the only lighting source(s) are hand held single bulb (60/75 watt work) lights with the safety cages removed.
I'll be using all three of my film camera most likely 5 rolls of B&W film 4 MF, 1 35mm

Good luck with the shoot, Mike. Which type of studio shoot will it be?

me too! but Florida is as far south as I can go without a passport & Raid says it's cold there too so I guess I'm stuck at home! Right now it's warmed to 24 deg. f.
I did have a new grandson born Dec. 28th so now I have someone to take photos of!

The BBC's news site has been running a satellite image of the UK from the 7th. The entire island is grey with snow cover, with the possible exception of a few tiny slivers on what I'd guess is the Devon coast.

Tomorrow is one of the rare days when I shoot with my semi retired Rolleicord V. The camera was originally bought new by my father and tomorrow is his birthday so I'm going to take some portraits of him using his old camera.

Raid,
Thanks !
Basic nude light and shadow studies in which the model holds the lights so that only the areas of her body nearest to the lights are illuminated and everything else is dark or falls to shadows.

Yep ,a bit further west from the look of it.Cornwall and the Scilly Isles have escaped but the Scillies always do. I`m on the Lancashire coast and we often escape the worst of it too but not this time .The local authorities have run out of sand and grit for the roads . It`s the usual cockup that we get over here whenever anything unusual happens. Managed one pic with the Mju yesterday.Thats about it. I want to be where Raid is. It sounds like a British summer

Michael,
I lucked out [maybe]; I initially planned to study in the UK,and my admission letters came to me from Manchester, Sheffield, Swansea, Kent, Cardiff and other places there, but then I received a letter in which I was informed that the tuition fees were trippled by Margaret Thatcher to keep those damned foreign students away from the UK.
I could have been now living in colder areas.

Raid, if you were not in Florida you would miss out on some unique photo opportunities
8th Jan - Associated Press reports from US:
The frigid weather hampered northern firefighters and even made life hard for Florida's tree-dwelling iguanas. It was so cold in Florida, freezing iguanas were seen falling out of trees.
Experts say the cold-blooded reptiles become immobilised when the temperature falls into the 40s [Fahrenheit] and they lose their grip on the tree.

In spite of the (relative) cold here in San Francisco, I'm going to trundle out with the R6, some Plus-X, and the Gitzo for some night shots South of Market.
Later a friend is hosting a costumed soiree at a bar near the house. I think I'll check that out with the M6 with Tri-X loaded.

Fergus,
It was getting close to 32F at 4pm.
We drove along the Gulf just before sunset yesterday, and when the [red] sun was about to sink below the horizon and over the water, I left the warm car,and I ran with my M6 and 35 Summilux to the edge of the water. There were two sets of about 20 birds standing [shivering?] side by side at the edge of the Gulf waters, and I included them as my main subject, while the water was ice blue and the sky in the West was crimson red.
I saw a rich person's house yesterday where the water fountain was 80% frozen, with ice formations looking wild, while water was still showing ... close to the Rolls Royce ... I did not take any photos.
This is what I love about living here. There is always something interesting to photograph or simply to forget about photography and enjoy life.

I took some photos just before sunset today at Pensacola Beach. It was 37F without wind chill at first, but it felt much colder[to my hands].
I used a Bessa T with a CV 25mm lens, plus a Leica M6 with a Summicron 50mm.
I started the photo "session" with a couple of minutes of digital photography with my basic LUMIX. Here are the results from the LUMIX.
