hello guys
i just picked up a yashica mg-1 from someone and
i know nothing about this camera
i put in a new battery with the yashica guy battery adapter
now 2 days later, the battery is dying and i have gone to CVS twice only to find out that both film rolls i used were blank.
is something wrong with my camera or is it user error?
i really want to use this camera ):
please help thanks!

tell me you took off the lens cap
it happens with rangefinders sometimes
no idea on the battery but it's not right

Shoot.
Possibly user error, since there's no manual override.
Have you set the ISO/ASA setting properly? Is the ring on the lens set to AUTO, or did you turn it to BULB?
By 'blank', are the negatives almost transparent or completely black? Or did you shoot slides?
If the negatives are black, they're overexposed by over ~4-5 stops, if they're almost transparent, they're heavily underexposed (to the point that you get no image)
Oh yes, and the lens cap! (forgot about it since I don't use lens caps, EVER)

it didnt come with a lens cap so that can be ruled out
i set the switch at the top to AUTO
the lady at CVS said the film was blank, as in new and unused film.
i set the ASA to 400 since the film i used was kodak 400
maybe something is wrong with the camera?
i really wish i knew what the problem was

was the film wound on correctly?
It's possible but unlikely but worth considering
have you checked to make sure that shutter is working ... open the back hold it up to the light and fire

the person i bought it from showed me how to load the film
and i looked online so that shouldnt be the issue...at least i hope not
i fired up at the light and the shutter clicked
what still gets me is the battery dying so quickly

There could be a short in the wiring that is both draining your battery and preventing correct exposure.

I have shot blank rolls many times, but always was due to not properly engage the film at the beginning. You can check if the roll is advancing by observing the knob on the left. Evey time you cock the shutter you should see a turn of the left knob.If its batteries, the lights on top would not turn on. These cameras need a CLA after 40 years anyway.

hrmm yes the battery has drained and i replaced it
hoping that it doesnt happen again
i have noticed the left turning thing while shooting and it does rotate after advancing the film after every shot.
i took it to a shop today and they said it was fine
possibly user error, but how hard can it be to point and shoot?

We all have days like that ... it's easy not to wind the film on correctly i have done and i guess many of us have but will never admit it
"i have noticed the left turning thing while shooting and it does rotate after advancing the film after every shot." not good dude, means the film is NOT winding on at all
do you have the correct batteries? if yes i suggest a visit to your friendly camera technician.

This has happened to me twice, and both times were due to the film not engaging the wind sprockets. Leave the back of the camera open, then wind and fire 2 or 3 times to make sure that the film is advancing. Close the cover, wind and fire a couple more times, and you should be ready to go.
Your batteries might be draining more quickly if you are leaving the camera wound. Release the shutter before putting your camera away.

Yeah, I still use film...
Hi!
The battery drain is quite possibly due to a deteriorated POD. The light damage is probably caused by the old light seals that have turned to either goo or dust. This camera really needs to be serviced...

Change the light seals just in case.
