Rollei Bayonet1/B30/30mm bayonet lens hoods

Hello all,

I have a Franke and Heidecke Rollei Bayonet 1 lens hood which allows any of my filters to pass through it but which won't fit onto either of my Yashica 635's lenses.

I have a Yashica B30 lens hood which will fit onto the camera but has trouble allowing any of my filters to pass through it, it is very hard/almost impossible to remove the hood without the filter coming off with it and getting stuck in the hood.

I now have an Airesflex Bayonet 1 lens hood which allows my filters to pass through it and fits onto both of my Yashica 635's lenses, but I've found it extremely difficult/almost impossible to remove the hood!

I don't remember any of this nonsense either of the times I owned a Yashicamat 124G and (almost certainly) Hoya B30 lens hoods.

Does anyone else have trouble like this? Could it be the lens hood mounts on the camera's lenses (I can't see anything wrong with them)? Could the Rollei, Yashica and Airesflex have slightly different Bayonet 1 mounts?

Why would a Yashica b30 lens hood have trouble allowing a Hoya, Photax or Cineamex B30 filter through it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I had a brainwave earlier, I tried my 37mm push on lens hood on the Rollei UV filter I have on my Yashica 635 and it fits almost perfectly, just needs a slight tighten up. This would then make it a better fit for most of my other Rollei filters Unfortunately, if I do that, the hood will be far too tight for a couple of Hoya, a Photax and a cineamex filter. On the other hand if I don't tighten the hood up a bit more than that, it will mean the hood is too loose for a number of Photax and a Cineamex filter. If I don't loosen the fit it will be too tight for a couple of Rollei filters.

It's me again!

My Bay-1 filters are almost all Rollei and B+W, but I found a lone Hoya B30 UV. I mounted it onto a Yashica D/Yashikor, which should be the same as your 635. Then I tried 3 hoods (a Yashica, a Minolta, and a Rollei F&H). The Minolta lens hood required a little more attention to mount onto the Yashica, but it did so with no risk of damage. I had no filter-clearance problem with any of these.

I don't have Photax or Ceanmex filters, so I couldn't make any comparison there.

I'm mystified as to how you could have problems with three different lens hoods. Could all three be defective, or could the bayonet flange on your camera be subtly bent?

I've just had another look while wearing my reading glasses and a pair of cheap magnifying flip-up lenses and I can't see anything wrong with the flanges on either viewing or taking lens. I agree that it would seem pretty odd to have hoods from 3 different companies give trouble, but I have read that some bayonet 1 Rollei hoods don't fit onto some non-Rollei cameras, but you'd think a Yashica one would fit without any trouble, but it neither likes going on or coming off either lens. The Yashica Hood had filter clearance problems with my filters, that can't be the fault of the camera. The Aries hood fits quite easily onto both sets of flanges but hates the idea of being taken off.

I have no idea what's going on with it. I hope to send the camera back to the sellers as they said they'd be happy to fit a replacement screen, though at the time I asked I didn't know they had ordered a stock of some after market ones from China, and I'm presuming these may be easier to fit than the Rick Oleson MPD pattern 6610 with full width parallax correction mark that I've just ordered, so I expect to pay for the fitting. Anyway, when I do send it back, I'll ask them to check the flanges and perhaps put a filter on and then put a lens hood on and take it off just to see if they have any problems.

That sounds like a good course of action. I don't really have any idea what else to do.

Unfortunately, the hood is a little loose and no longer has the "positive lock" into place that it had. It doesn't feel too loose to use, but I'll still ask the seller to check the camera for the trouble if they can.

I did manage to get the Rollei hood on once, but it won't go on now. I think it's a bit of a snob and thinks a mere Yashica is below it's dignity, lol.

I forgot to mention that my Rollei F&H hood mounted onto my Yashica D easily. It would appear that my Rollei hood is humbler than yours. 😎

That will be because yours is actually a fake that's been made in a scruffy shed somewhere and labelled as if it's a Rollei.
