The Decisive moment H C BRESSON BOOK

I was fortunate to find two copies of The Decisive Moment through inter-library loans here in Massachusetts. Both were in excellent shape (minus the Matisse cover and redone with a library cloth hardback binding).

It was a joy to read and look through them both. The writing was very insightful. Fortunately, HCB's opening essay is captured on pp. 20-43 of "The Mind's Eye" which is still available.

All 126 photos from The Decisive Moment are available for viewing at this archived website (keep on clicking the "continue >" symbol on the right side of the page). Unfortunately, no captions.

I definitely urge you to work with a reference librarian and try to obtain a copy on loan if you cannot find a local library with a reference copy. I did mention to the librarians that this is a very rare and expensive book... ...their response was ..."thanks for bringing it back..." 🙄

Enjoy!

If I remember correctly, the title "The Decisive Moment" was an interpretation of the French original title, "Images a la sauvette" which means "images in a hurry". The concept of "decisive moment" was perhaps an Anglo-American marketing idea. -George
