After months of only using my M mount and Nikon RF cameras I had forgotten how nice my Contax G1 feels in my hands. It was my first. So it holds a special place. Gotta get it out more often. I loaded it with Kodak Ektar 100 to take pictures of the fresh snow on my way to work. I'm sure Ektar will look great with the Zeiss glass.
 
Yes, love the G1. I got it only about a month ago but have been using it non-stop.
 
My opportunity to have a G1 & G2 system I owe to a RFF member. My surprise at the accuracy of the auto focus on both G1 & G2 is still a shock. The Contax G cameras do everything better than any M7 I have tried. The Zeiss glass delivers superior quality that really sticks out on 35 mm negatives. Not unexpected from my many years with Rollei view camera lenses.

I think that what is so "slick" about the G system is that the operation is so effortless. Metering is so much better than my M6TTL. Each lens gives a much more delicate negative and wider tonal range.
 
The G2 was the best film camera I ever used. Now that I'm deep invested in digital, it's a shame. I can't bear to sell my lenses, since I hope for a digital G in the future. But, I've decided to sell three G2 bodies in perfect shape.
 
Just getting acquainted with a G2 this evening. I feel it's kind of like the Bugatti Veyron of cameras. An unbelievably awesome piece of equipment that's so good, it's really a once-in-a-generation kind of thing. Here's hoping that Kyocera or whoever decides to "get the band back together" someday and build a new digital (or even film) version.
 
I have a G2 system. The only time I have ever had any focus problems is with the 90. Maybe one time in 20 have I ever had a focus problem where I need to refocus before I shot. Never had a problem with any other lens. I have always loved the pictures from this camera.

I can count on one hand how many out of focus images I have gotten with my G1 over the years. The only time I have encountered problems is with the 90mm on my G1. It makes noise until it focuses. It's pretty annoying when it's searching for focus. But when it focuses, the image produced is great.
 
I also have a G2 and 45mm and a few out of focus shots from my first few rolls of film I put through it when I bought it 2 years ago. Put it down to user error!

It's been perfect since I read the manual 😱 lovely camera, love the sound of the shutter.

Autofocus in dimly lit clubs or cafes is exceptional too

Yeah, that pesky manual is very useful. The autofocus on my G1 with 28mm and 45mm is very fast. I use mine alot in jazz clubs.
 
Yep, that's the key for sure in reading the manual. Us blokes don't usually take too well to reading instruction books do we? 😀

I know several people who've tried the G and not got on with it and every single one was because they did not read the manual and simply failed to understand how the AF worked properly. Give me the G2 AF over using a Leica any day of the week! It just fits in the hand so well and it's almost like the camera blends into me when I use it, like it's an extension of me. I love my Leica M8 but it will never replace the G2 as my favourite ever camera.

I've often thought about buying an M6 but I read threads like this and get to thinking what's the point because I already have the best film RF cameras ever made and some of the best lenses to match. Anything else will only disappoint.

I recently got chastised by Stephen Gandy at CameraQuest for referring to the Contax G as a great rangefinder system. It's a P&S, he instructed me. Oh the shame!

Just got back my first two rolls from the G2. Only one shot was clearly misfocused, and it was one of the first shots on the first roll when I was still getting the hang of the camera. The obvious check for anyone who has issues is to look at the distance scale in the viewfinder. If you're focusing on something right in front of you and the 3 on the distance scale lights up, you've obviously focused past your target. Certainly that won't work for close cases, but it's perfect for checking focus on an object/person in front of you with the background a ways back.

My only other issue on the first two rolls can be chalked up to user error. I shot 400VC throughout the day last weekend, and the shots from the middle of the day in sunny LA have some seriously washed out colors. Different film and less sky in the shots would have helped, I think. Car shot is nice...indoors, 1/20s hand-hold. Second shot was in harsh sun at 3 p.m. Third shot was in the same sun, but at least not head on with it.
