Mid 50's Olympus 35 S

Looks like you got yourself a beautiful classic Olympus. Neat camera!

I'm sure if you stuck it on the auction site, you'd easily net twice, maybe even three or four times, what you paid. Some well used, poor condition examples with f2.8 lenses have been selling for $50+. Good grab at $30, for sure!

Post some samples from it so we can see what a vintage Olympus f1.8 lens can do!

Argh! Somehow I don't think I'm the one to be able to show what this lens is capable of.

First, the darling little thang was showing sluggish shutter symptoms, so I had to open her up... from the top anyway.
It looks as though some ham fisted field jockey (probably not too unlike moi) had already done penetrated her first; having dented and banged the spanner screw holding the winder arm on and had un-sprung the wire spring beneath. My poor baby had been done wronged!

So I rewound the tender wire coil a couple turns, cleaned the viewfinder glass, crossed my fingers, tossed salt over my shoulder and put her back together again.

Now I'm a total newb with manual controls, so befuddled by the selenium light meter and the lack of asa film speed control.

And what the (!!!!) No batteries?

Nothing left but to put some film in and click....

So I just got the first roll of the cheapest drug store 200 back,

and it works. Wow! Ok, nothing to write home about, but still, I'm thrilled.

The second shot was when I was attempting to try out the self timer and sort of guessed the close focus range.

Ok, I think I just figured out how to upload a pic on the thread.

Is this pic too big?

We recently had a bad freeze here in central Florida and it really browned up the landscape. The garden looks awful. Everything looks dead. In fact, lots of perennials were killed off.

These are the limp remains of my Sky Flower Vine. Sad. :(

I know. kind of dreary and dismal.

Those are great cameras with a fantastic lens...I have three of them (one I use & two back-ups)
Make sure the leaf shutter is clean (they get oily) if they sit for a few days the shutter gets slow for the first few frames...
Wonderful lens for B&W...
The EV scale on the back corresponds with the numbers on the lens...just set the ASA dial and point it to the weather condition you happen to be in...and set it...
I also agree that they feel great in your hands...
You happen to have the light meter too...great find...
I was reading the #23 post...you want to get to the shutter through the front of the lens...clean the blades with ronsonal and q-tips...you'll know you did it right when you can fire it a week later and it doesn't stick...

That is indeed a beautiful camera. I found one at our flea market a couple of years ago, complete with the original case, and after cleaning it up and cleaning the shutter blades (which it seems I have to do every few months) it works beautifully. Mine is also the 35-SII with the G.Zuiko 1.8 lens. I think it's a classy looking RF.

The photos remind me of the results Will posted from his Ace ... the resemblance is not surprising, but I really don't need a reminder of how lovely the results can be. I'm trying to cut back ...

I got my 35S-II back from a CLA, well more a restoration than a CLA as it was in really horrible shape: shutter stuck, frameline glass broken, lens encrusted with dirt, etc. It's not mint and will never be again, but now it works, it's super smooth and the vf/rf are clear and contrasty.

It's a beautiful little camera and it feels great in my hands, so much so that I grabbed a second one (a later model with no self-timer lever and the big S on the top) from a Japanese auction.

may I ask, which auctions? I realize there can be found nice deals though I haven't seen any with English interface. Unless you read Japanese, of course!

I use a proxy service to bid on Yahoo! Japan auctions. With shipping and fees it's not cheap, but for items which are almost exclusively found in Japan it's convenient, especially if you win them at auction for 10$. :)

Send me a PM if you need details.
