Police is investigating and that is all I can say at the moment. I'll report on that matter when it's all done.
I see you have been posting some photos with Noctilux. So, did you finally get it after all? Or got this situation resolved somehow?

Yes I noticed this too, Markus. Is that Noctilux yours or another on loan? I hope this lame situation did get fixed!

I cashed in on some of my pension savings to get rid of this obsession and bought another one. The original Noctilux buy is still under police investigation.

I wonder how many times he has already done this and how many times he can still do it. This Noctilux probably isn't the only thing he is 'selling' either.

The bank has got to be the best spot to get a handle on who the person is.
I was scammed a couple of years ago by a person who opened up a german bank account with a fake id. It took the police months to respond to my fraud report !

I'm a little confused, isn't the individual assigned from the police dept. notified about the resurfaced ebay ad and if so, doesn't that aid him/her in catching the culprit? Seems like a good starting point or is this not a big priority in the scheme of their operation?

I can't comment on that yet because I don't want to risk the investigation.

Epimetheus ,
First of all, my sincere sympathy for what happened.
But truth to be told, as someone said in page 1, you had all the warning signs there.
These days, to be honest, I dont buy on eBay. It's just drives me crazy - not worth it.
I do buy on a couple of online stores ( european ) and they are 10-15% more but at least I think that I'm paying that to insure and its all worth it.
Lets see : you bought ( or scammed ) in 2.4k euros.
I bought for 2.4k pounds ( roughly 2.8k euros ) a mint Noctilux on FFORDES, almost a year ago.
Prices of the Noctilux are steady and dont seem to fluctuate much for a long time, even with the new Noctilux on the block. They are rock solid value lens.
Now I paid 400 euros more than you had have.
What I would get with 400 euros ?
- 6 months warranty
- DHL 48 hours shipping with tracking number
- peace of mind.
Its worth it.
I'm sorry, I sell on ebay or buy cheap stuff, like film.
Everything else I buy in stores.
There is plenty of internet offerings around ( Leica wise ) in Europe, I dont see the point of going on eBay - yap, if you get it right, its a find. But as you know by, if things go wrong, they can be VERY WRONG.
And its just not worth it.

It has been months since I heard from the police. eBay has the scammers IP address but they wont release it because some legislation issues between countries. Same thing with Google. Best lead was the scammers bank account number but apparently anyone can get a bank account anywhere with fake id so that's a dead end as well. That's it. It's an easy way to get money and never get caught.
I gained some good karma out of this and made few euros in stock market and was eventually able to buy M9 and a Noctilux. I'm still bitter but mostly happy and trying to put all this behind me.

I got scammed 2 times in 10 years with ebay as a buyer (I never sold anything).
first time 200 dollars.
second time 1000 euros.
there was no-way to be refund from paypal or ebay...
I continue to buy from ebay, but I'm a little smarter than before.
sorry to see such a big loss, but the risk of scam is in every kind of medium you use to buy/sell.
now, just to bring you a smile, here you are my last "discussion" with a seller on ebay, due to fraud-fear:
me:
seller:
me (hurted by the answer):

hi, I'm very interested in your lens, I live in Italy.
how much to ship to my country?
seller:
Sorry, Italy has a reputation for lost items, non delivery, and fraud.
No shipments to italy.
me (hurted by the answer):
USA has warmonger reputation, but I don't think you're all John Rambo.
adieu.

The old saying "Living well is the best revenge" applies
Sorry about the past but it is, as you said, now in the past.
Enjoy the M9 and the Noct - I've seen some images you posted and they're really cool
Cheers,
Dave
