For those who wonder here are two samples of the same object I took with different cameras and films, both at f/5.6 if I recall correctly (I'm not trying to prove anything, just killing some free time😛).

The first pic is Mamiya SD with f/1.5 lens and Kodak Porta 160NC-2 film:

The second pic is Yashica Electra 35 GS and FUJICOLOR PRO 400H film:

I have not seen Mamiya 35mm rf before...interesting...

By the way I liked the results from mamiya and f1.5 lens! They are sharp though!

...🙁 my both Mamiya SD's (one with f/1.5 and the other one with f/2.0 lenses) are packed and ready to be shipped back to Concept Lighting in CA for repairs. Both cameras developed certain mechanical problems and I can't use them any more,

...just as I've promised here are some pics I've maid with my newly CLA'ed Mamiya Super Deluxe f/2.0. I used Fujicolor iSO200 film.

As always I had to use my trusted Gossen Digisix and Sekonic L-358 light meters (camera's light meter works ok, but I somewhat not comfortable using it, modern meters are the best for me!):

I hope you like the results as much as I'm (minus the fact that I have to send both my Mamiya's back to repair shop in CA)...

Hi Hans,

thanks for your question and I believe that I've used f/2.8 on last pic.

I think MSD with f/2.0 lens is kind of underrated model (you know, everyone is going after much more expensive MSD's with f/1.5 and f/1.7 lenses).

I have all three models in my collection and based on my humble experience I can say that all three models have one unpleasant thing in common: quite noticeable lens distortion. It is especially noticeable if you do lots of close-ups (like all straight lines become slightly curved, object are loosing proportions, etc).

Well, both my Mamiya Super Deluxe cameras (with f/1.5 and f/2.0 lenses) are finally back from 'Concept Lighting' (formally UT Photo, Inc) and my MSD f/1.5 is loaded with CVS iSO200 film (which is on the sell at CVS right now and going for $4.99 per 96 exp. pack).

In case if you are wondering the CLA turn-around was about one year, still Jimmy Fujisawa is the nicest and most competent repairman to deal with - he is highly recommended.

Just as I have promised: here is my latest photo test done with my newly CLA'ed Mamiya Super Deluxe with f/1.5 lens. I used cheapo Kodak Gold 200 film. Film was developed and scanned at my local Walgreens photo lab (and I think they do very decent job considering how much they charge me).

This time all pics were taken with the help of Gossen Digisix light meter only - can't say enough good things about this light meter🙂,

Great pics you have there. I have been searching for the f 1.5 MSD myself but to no avail. = (

Really sharp pictures and I like the contrast too. Not forgetting, f 1.5 is obviously excellent for taking low light pictures. The swirly bokeh is pretty nice too. To think this camera was made more than 40 years ago, it is just amazing. = )

thank you very much for your kind words and yes, I am always amazed by the fact that this camera was made in 1964/65 - over the 45 years ago! And the build quality is just fantastic, this camera is definitely going to outlive me and be around for another 100 years 🙂

I must admit that this thread started the idea of using my SD 1.5 again as I left the camera sitting for a very long while.
You´re right Arthur saying that this camera (as well as many others) will outlive you (and me too) just because they were made to last, not as disposable consumer products.
My eldest camera is 74 y.o. and is still working as expected, so why not the Mamiyas which are younger?

It will definitely last for posterity. The old cameras were built like tanks, unlike the plastic ones nowadays. Sometimes I wonder about the history of the cameras itself, as in how many and who were the owners before me who owned it. I managed to get myself a f1.7, eagerly waiting for it to arrive.

I would just like to ask, what is the filter thread size for the MSD f2 version? I am having a little trouble determining whether is it a 38mm or 39mm screw in filter that fits and I hope someone could give me some advice. Thank you in advance. = )

OK, here is what I got for you:

if you are planing to use external slip-on hood the correct size will be 51mm.

(read this thread: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69934&highlight=mamiya+super+deluxe)

For inner filter thread the correct size should be somewhere between 40mm to 40.16mm - it's hard to say exactly, but I got these numbers on my digital caliper display. Well, at least you know where to start from 🙂
