M9 firmware update problem (I think)

Has anyone here had or heard about a problem with the new M9 firmware update? After I updated a couple of weird things has started happening.

Firstly, the LCD preview loads really slowly. Getting a sharp image back there takes so long time that I at first thought there was something seriously wrong with the focusing. Eventually it turns up fine but it takes veeeery long.

Secondly it makes the camera turn itself off suddenly for no apparent reason. It just goes into some kind of sleep mode and I have to push the shutter once just to wake the camera up again. This has actually made me miss a couple of good shots.😡

I'm not a 100% sure it's directly related to the update, but the problem started occurring more or less exactly at that time.

I haven't seen anything about this anywhere else. Is it really just me?

I do agree the play takes a looooooong time to replay, however, I think this has more to do with the card which we use and the cards available in the marketplace than the camera itself...

I am certain you had previously complained as I had about the time 'formatting' took - and, now it takes no time at all. So, for that we have to bless the programmers who noted this problem and resolved it in the latest firmware.

As for the camera going to sleep... I assume, that you can adjust the time in which this occurs. I did.

Over all, I'd say, you either have a typical M9 or your camera is just a little quirky. Or, it is operating just as programmed.

Personally, I wouldn't worry.

It seems from what you wrote to be just like my own M9...and, I find it operating just as Leica had promised.

sounds as if the camera after firmware upgrading uses factory settings: shooting RAW/JPEG combined, and sleep mode activated to save battery power.

both these 'issues' can be switched on and off in the menu.

would be in line with the firmware updates on M8's, those were also set to factory standard settings after update.

No, it has nothing to do with settings being changed. I'm shooting RAW as I've always done and the going to sleep thing has not to do with any setting either. Part of the problem is that it during playback just switches off after.... I don't know... 20 seconds or so, even though I'm still operating the thing.

I promise you, this is not normal behavior for the camera. It worked in a totally different way before the update. I had an M8 before and it never did anything like this either.

Yes- that is a known bug - auto-power-off will activate during playback. Quite annoying, but I " solved" it by setting it to 10 min. And the substitution of the sharpened Jpg does indeed take a bit long. It took just as long before, but the screen remained black, now there is some kind of unsharp preview.

Yes, the same thing is happening with mine. They need to fix the fix.

I hope this gets back to them sooner than later.

Thanks, Jaap. I'll try your tip about setting it to 10 minutes and see if that helps. About the loading time for the preview: I don't know, it's just that I've never seen a camera using even remotely close to this much time to load a preview. The initial one is incredibly blurry and stays there so long that I cannot believe anyone would find this anything else than incredibly annoying. And the thing is that before the update it all worked a lot better. The sharpened preview took a little time to get up, but the initial one was at least usable. The one I get now after taking the picture looks like I've been focusing completely wrong, it's a total blur.
