I'm just curious what camera people use when they want to shoot digital with their OM lenses. I assume Canon? That's the brand for which there seem to be lots of adapters. Are there any others, besides 4/3 and m4/3, that work well?

Canon's the best. 5d is cheap and had extremely good IQ, and the EF mount allows more adaptable lenses than any other on the market.

Another vote for the 5D, the adapters aren't even that pricey.

Do you think we are getting closer to a point where there will be a compact, full frame SLR body to which lots of different legacy lenses can be mounted? Or is that a pipe dream? If I'm not mistaken, only Sony has put a full frame sensor into an APS-C style body, right? But I assume you can't adapt much to it?

the 5d is a compact full frame digital slr, and can adapt pretty much most major manufacturers lenses easily besides the FD mount lenses.
Sony has the a900 - it's a little bigger than a 5d but yes, they are both gripless dlsr's, both fullframe. The canon is more versatile when adapting lenses.

I'll second (third? fourth?) the 5D recommendation. I've been using zuikos on my 5D for about a year and it's great. Here's a link to my photostream with all photos taken by my 5D and some zuiko (look in the tags): http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=zuiko&w=84341102@N00&s=int
The 5D's are coming down in price too!

if you wander over to the alt gear forum at fredmiranda.com, i think you'll find a fairly large group using the 5DI/II with all kinds of alt glass: zuiko, leitz, zeiss, others. put an Ee-S screen in a 5D and MF works very well.

I use the 24/2.8, 28/3.5, 35/2, 50/1.8 on a 1Ds II. The 24 and 50 are my favorites by far.

I hate the way Canon DSLRs look and feel. But damn - they do the job.

Hmmm... might have to look into this. Seems the 12mp 5D body can be had for under $1000. That's pretty attractive compared to a micro-4/3.

I have an OM-10 OM-2n with F1.4. F1.8 50mm Zoom and WA oly lenses. Magic with my 20D, 40D and 550d. The adpaters from china are cheap. The Canon wasnt my first choice as digital but have legacy lenses from Pentax, Nikon and Oly. The Canon EF mount system is brillant big throat short film plane register and the exposure meter works.

It's odd that ... I feel exactly the same way but I can't quite quantify what it is that I find extremely unapealing about them. I feel this way about all Canons actually ... perhaps I had a traumatic experience as a child and a Canon camera was involved.

Strange, me too. The look and feel doesn't agree with me at all. But they certainly do the business. It's odd that ... On a general note. The flange to focal plane distance of the camera is what is important. The lens + adapter shall be no longer than that of the lens on its original mount.
Som popular mounts F to F distance
Leica M is 27.8mm
Leica L screw is 28.8mm
Canon EF is 44mm
Sony Alpha/Minolta is/was 44.5mm
Pentax K is 45.5mm
Olympus OM is 46mm
Nikon F is 46.5mm
In other words OM lenses with adapter will most likely fit all mounts with lesser F to F distances. The Nikons are in this respect disqualified (or if you try it out, will not focus to infinity, but may be used for macro). Any camera with an M-mount however will accept a bunch of different lenses.
