Bump -- anybody else?
Maclaine, your Flickr sets are cool. Yes, the accidental portrait of Monika is my fave, too.
Thanks, batterytype (if that IS your real name). I took that picture with a Nikkor 5cm f/2 I got from another RFFer (f16sunshyn) in a trade. I ended up trading it in to fund a ZM Planar a few days later and immediately regretted it. It was in such phenominal condition, I don't think the trade value was what it should have been. Live and learn.
One of the reasons I went to the show today was to try to find a replacement. I am following in the path many others have gone down in search of a vintage 50mm Sonnar. There were a couple in Nikon S mount, but nothing I was looking for in Leica screw mount (CZJ Wartime, Nikkor, or Canon). However, I did manage to pick up a really clean Jupiter-8 for $40, which should hold me over for a while. I'm dropping out of the sharpness race now that I have the Planar, so it's on to different "looks", and I'm looking forward to seeing what the J-8 can do.
I have also recently begun shooting 4x5 with a dangerous eye towards 8x10 eventually, and thought I might look at some stuff. There was tons of large format gear around, but I like to do a lot of research before I buy anything, and I was pretty overwhelmed, so I decided to let it slide for now. My bank account thanked me.
I also met some nice folks from a New England 3D Stereo club I didn't even know existed. A few years ago I bought a Kodak Stereo camera from eBay that was in like-new condition. The lack of use over the years unfortunately meant that the internal mechanics didn't match up with the cosmetics, and these guys had some really helpful advice on how to fix it. I think they were a bit surprised that someone my age was into these oddball cameras, but shooting in stereo is a lot of fun, and I think I'll check out some of their meetings in the future.
Overall, I had a good time and met some nice dealers. I'll definitley check out the fall show, too, and maybe walk out with an 8x10 camera!
