Cameraleather experiences

I was worried about causing thread drift---

Anyone recover a Leica Standard with CL's magic?

Mine was converted from a Model 1, and what ever the covering, it is falling off by the moment on an otherwise really nice camera, and is more than 60% gone now, so removal should not be much of an issue. The surface underneath seems to have swirls as if the former covering was glued on, I have no reason to believe it is anything other than the covering Leica put on when they converted the camera to Standard..

Was not really thinking of red---

I have seen Jorge's M Leica in Uruapan with a stellar job he did with the recovering with something interesting from CL giving the camera a custom look, and I know he has good tactile skills and a crew of 20 VW mechanics to help him, but he did a great job for a handsome end product.

The Standard does see to be as straight forward and uncomplicated a body as can be. This thread has been encouraging, and hearing from someone recovering a standard would be enlightening.

Regards, John

I just called Jumpsuits for AH Men and tried to order the "Corvette" in size XXL sky blue as I will soon be shooting with a M2 dressed in cardinal red but alas . . . . they are sold out!

Oscar, can I borrow yours? I promise to return it unscathed and with most of the stains bleached out.

You missed your window of opportunity? ;-)

CameraLeather is a very decent company!

I received an M6 kit in error, e-mailed it was the wrong kit and he apologised and sent me the right kit the same day, told me to keep the other one, no need to send it back, no extra charge.

My black M3 now has GripTac on it and it sticks to the fingers like glue, unbelievable!
I have a IIIa brassed shooter and am considering GripTac for that as well, but all current vulcanite still is complete, although loose... oh, decisions...

You guys are really lucky, as Morgan's response is quite promptly to you. I'm living in Singapore, ordered my M3 kit and scratch pads end of May 2009, since then no response from Morgan, until about 3.5 weeks later, he finally did when I email him the PayPal transaction as a proof of purchase. But he only managed to ship out the M3 kit, as the scratch pad stock was not available.

Until today, 2 months since my order, I have not receive the scratch pad yet. I've send him an email 3 days ago and still waiting for his reply:bang:

The guys with the Stingrays mostly were impressing other guys. The back of my VW Microbus was a Chick Friendly Environment. Good times at rock festivals and outdoor concerts!

Yeah, me too. I ordered a new leather for my Oly 35 RD in early June and I haven't heard anything since.

Still Waiting..........

Still Waiting..........

Yea, sent my Nikon F to good ol' Morgan, got there on March 11, what's today, April 20th? No joy yet. Must have some serious 'personal business' to attend to....

2 years ago, I had bought an 'Indian Red' Kid leather kit for my M3, but found the pieces mismatched in color. While Morgan was initially difficult to communicate with, he conceded hat natural leathers often weren't an exact match, and took the kit back.
A week ago, I ordered and received my 'Deep Jade' composite leather kit for my M2, and have applied it.

And here is my somewhat battered but otherwise beautified baby !

Here are a couple of experiences with the DIY option-
1. The paint stripper is toxic, and gave me a couple of stinging skin rash ( essentially a contact dermatitis), which disappeared after an hour or so. I am somewhat prone to allergies, and not everyone may have this problem. I did wear rubber gloves, but this goop is thick, clear, and difficult to apply carefully, if you want to not coat the back door edges etc. I hated this part of the job.
2. Despite being careful, the gloves, sticky goop, and some clumsiness on my part, I managed to lightly ding the camera, easily reducing its value by $100, which is what it would have cost to ship and get Morgan to do it.
3. The application of the kit is easy if using the "wet method". I wouldn't do it any other way.
4. Halfway there, I considered throwing it all in a bag and sending it to Cameraleather to finish the job, but am glad I didn't. I was surprised at how well it all turned out !

I recently re-covered my Canon 7 with gray Griptac. Really great stuff, I'm planning to re-cover my Olympus Pen D with it as well. I received my order in Korea in about a week and have nothing but good things to say about cameraleather.com

It's hit or miss w/ Morgan on delivery time since this is NOT his day job. However, he's 100% honest, has fine products and does nice work too.

Just received a kit for my Ikon in "Black Beauty" leather. Gotta say, it's really slippery. Looks great, and fits very well, but it makes me want to leave my half case on. Kind of disappointing.

Finally took the plunge and recovered my M3 and M8 with a composite leather in Claret from Morgan. He was VERY responsive to my questions (emails) and kindly shipped my order within a couple of days. A great experience.

I did the recovering on the M8 myself (was easy) and Sherry recovered the M3.

The surface is very smooth but it has a better grip than the original shark skin on the M8. As the surface is smooth, it tends to show scratches and other defects such as marks from my nails. I got to keep my finger nails trimmed all the time :)

Cheers

A really belated response to Helen : Love da lizard!

I posted "Elvis" my Cobra skinned OM-1 MD, in the gallery today,
but for some reason (Read: dumb me) it shows "No Thumbnail"

Go ahead and click on it... there is a picture there. Oh, and to the
point - it is a CameraLeather skin. I've always had great service
from brother Sparks.
