Anybody know where it is? I traded it, back around 1962 or so, for another Leica item, in a camera store in Las Vegas. If you have it and don't need it, I'll buy it back.

Thanks for looking,

Rob

Good luck, Rob, though such an attachment to a mere commodity will probably be thought funny by those who don't know irrationality from the inside.

Thank goodness, I checked and it's not mine either.

It would take a Porsche and your first born to pry my IIIf away from me ..... or on second thoughts .... just the Porsche would do.

I did a search on your S/N and found your lament on the old pnet of the pretty girl in Biology class you shot a photo of with that IIIf. I hope you still have that photo :)

Yep, I still have the picture. I think I took it with my dad's model II, though.

Just checked mine...
no go.
That kind of quest remind me of that quote from the movie "the lord of the ring":
"Small chances of success..., certainty of death..., what are we waiting for?!"

Good luck!

I remember watching the show "Thats Incredible" years ago and there was an interesting segment on this person who marked a dollar note in a unique way and it came back to him/her years later after circulating thousands of cash registers and pairs of hands.

Who knows what may happen with your quest. I find the whole idea enthralling and wish you luck. I wonder if there is someone who is good with algebra and all that jazz who can calculate using the total production number of that particular model etc the chance of it still existing and whatsmore you finding it.

Good luck^^

Good luck. Mine is #598427. No need to check, it's easy to remember after 40+ years.

Yes, and even after 50 years. Mine (685475) has a certain rhythm to it that makes it easier. I know the serial number of my M2 as well. It's not so easy to remember the rest of my Leicas, purchased much later in life,; though the last four digits of one M6TTL, 1792, manage to stay in my aging mind.

I suppose if I tried, I could memorize more serial numbers, but these days it makes more sense to just write them down. I usually have a list of serial numbers with me for cameras and lenses I'm traveling with.

My IIIc, bought used in 1958, was 401842, and the Summitar that came with it was 626381. I traded the lens for a Summicron, and the camera was stolen in Milan in 1964. I'm in the market too.

I can barely remember my PIN number, but that's just how the brain works.
