I sent my Leica M3 to Youxin for a CLA and he said that the strap lugs on my camera are about to fail, so I no longer want to use a strap that requires using the lugs. Does anyone have a solution for me? Anyone know of any cases besides the original Leica half cases that have a built in strap?

Aren't there straps available that connect to the tripod socket on the bottom plate? How reliable are these? I'm looking for a neck strap, or just a wrist strap.

I currently have a Mr Zhou case, and it's a shame to think that I probably won't be able to use it anymore...

any ideas help, and thanks a ton!

do you know how much on average it would cost to do so?

I also just found the Gordy's tripod mount wrist strap, which I think i'm going to purchase, but it would still be nice to find a solution for the neckstrap.

If I can't find anything, then perhaps I will just pay to have the lugs changed.

Thank you,
Greg

If you are used to using a neckstrap, I would not just adjust yourself to a wrist strap. The difference obviously is big.

I use a neck strap on both my cameras when shooting in the streets, one around the neck and one wrapped around the wrist.

It might be a bad idea to have your camera dangle of a wrist strap that threads into the bottom plate. Things might bend.

Get the strap lugs replaced, much safer!

I've heard those things have a habit of bending the baseplate if you let the camera hang, or if it gets banged too hard on the mounting screw. No experience--I've just heard that.

Another idea: Get a half-case with the capacity to attach a strap to it. My M2 came with the original everready case, and it is intended to have the strap attached to case and not the camera--actually you can't use it with a strap attached to the camera--it's too tight.

I know Luigi makes a case like this--probably others do as well.

I would assume that its important for the case to screw into the tripod mount on the bottom (original M2 case works like this) so it is not in danger of falling out.

Edit---

something like this perhaps

Again, I'm sure other people make something similar.

I would see to have the eyelets replaced or something... after a while, they may be the source of light leaks.

However, in the meanwhile, you can do as Wilonstott recommended; in fact, I have an old Leica half-case for my M3. I don't even know if the eyelets are in good or poor shape... just like the case and that has been good.

Take care!

I talked to Youxin about replacing lugs and he said that he would recommend DAG and that it would cost around $120 and about a months time.

Since my M3 is my only M mount body, i can't really afford to send it out for a month+. Hopefully i'll end up with a back up M2, and then i'll send it out to get fixed.

I think for now, it's gonna be old m3 case and a gordy tripod mount wrist strap for special occasions.

thank you for all the responses!
