I currently own the CV 35/2.5 and I can't shake off the desire to own a Leica 35 lens.
Which lens would you recommend:
a. used summicron 35 v4
b. new summarit 35
I would most appreciate feedback from those who've shot or own(ed) both.
Thanks!

The new Summarit will be more like you're CV.
v4 is softer at wide apertures, but that's part of its charm.
I guess if you're looking for a change, go v4.

Between the two I would go with the V4. Before that I would get a good Nikkor 35/1.8, but that is me. Another option, if size is not an issue is the ZM 35mm.

i'd go with a used 35mm summarit-m. they go for $950 in mint condition, give or take $25. the bokeh is not compromised wide open and close up like the v4, which sells in the same price range as a used, non-6-bit 35mm summicron asph!

It's not on your list, but having used both of those lenses, I would go for the 3rd version of the 35 summicron.
Otherwise, you can't really go wrong with either choice. Either one will make great images.

The lenses mentioned above are all excellent in their own ways.
If you now like to try a modern look with high contrast and sharpness across the lens, a Summarit would give you such a look and so would a new CV 35mm lens.
If you want a traditional 35mm look with some reduced sharpness in the edges, the Summicron or even the Summaron 35/2.8 would be a good choice.
There exist other 35mm lenses that also are excellent. It all boils down to your budget and the look you are after.
I like my 8-element Version 1 35/2 Summicron with goggles formy M3, and I also like my Canon 35/2.8 LTM lens. Both give a very pleasing look.
I once posted with Roland's assistance a large comparisons project on 35mm-40mm lenses at RFF. Take a look at how each lens performs before spending so much money.
The Summicron-C 40/2 is a best buy.
