Do you guys know if Youxin Ye does CLAs of Nikkor lenses? If not, do you have any recommendations?
I will send an email off to Youxin Ye later.

Damn!!!! I just noticed that there is a Social Security # engraved on it.
The same # is on the tripod mount of the lens with the name Carroll.

I guess the S/S number lowers its value in $ terms but it is still an M3 and deserves to be saved ...

I am green with envy. I scour the flea markets when I can for any camera gear and the best I've come up with were working fixed lens RF's. Oh, and a Nikon F3 for $100 with a exc+ 180mm f/2.8 AIS. Ok, so i did get a deal. But never on a Leica.
The 10.5cm Nikkor is pretty easy to take apart for some cleaning if you're at all mechanically adept. One issue with the RF paired with that lens is that if someone installed the cam follower on the lens wrong (there is an intermediate cam follower that actuates the one on the M body) then it will not focus. Make sure that it's moving in & out properly.
Great find! Enjoy it!

I didn't pick up the Retina. They were shutting up the shop as I was talking to the kind lady at the table with the cameras.
"They are all old, but all work well."
I explained that the camera I was intersted in was non functional because it can't focus. But I agreed with her that it was a nice camera and I was hoping to be able to find someone to repair it.
"I have been in the business for 50 years. The best thing is that German lenses will fit on that Japanese camera. It is an exact copy of a Leica"
I never said it was a Leica, and I was sure at this point that they never figured out how to get the meter off it to see the top and that the camera was in fact... a Leica.
I took off the lens, showed her the haze.
"What can you do on the price of this camera?"
"Well, I will take $100."

I will have to take some photos of it when I get home.
I couldn't get the rewind post to move up, so that will need some work too.
I can't wait to get home to plug in a proper lens to see if that finder comes to life. It will be the best day ever if the adaptor is the problem with the lens, not the body.
Serial #735xxx, DS, Self Timer, no frame line lever.
A good day for me.
Just take that lens off and move the RF roller cam with your finger while looking in the VF - then you'll know if all is still connected.

Youxin tells me he doesn't work on Contax, so I ended with the impression that he is Leica only. Congratulations on your find!

I agree, of course.
And I wouldn't mind you going back to that shop and getting a nice price on an eyelevel prism for a Nikon F! Shipping to NL including all risk ofcourse on me.
Been trying to find a clean prism for some time now, but they appear to be more precious than a complete camera for some odd reason...?

If they have a beater FTN prism or black prism face, I'd like it too... and I'm not far away in upstate ny.
I will be back down there tomorrow. Anyone want to meet me? It is in West Haven. The shop is open until 4.
I will say again, all of their cameras are in pretty tough shape. The Minolta SRT not looking too bad, but I didn't check to see if the meter was on or if it was working. The Nikon Fs are all very used. The one with the big photo whatever finder had the lens in the mount, but not secured. I secured it and all seemed ok. I did not pick them all up and test the advance and shutter for operation.

So, here it is. The RF has no second image so that would indicate it has mirror issues. It is not blacked out, but there is no second image. It needs a big cleaning and obviously a service. Along with the finder I think the other big issue is the rewind nob which I can't get to extend.
I think the meter is dead and filthy. As I said, the lens needs a CLA too.
But all in all, the almighty dollar buys a lot today. All this for $100.

good luck with the camera! be very careful taking on and off that meter - it doesn't look like the top has been scratched by it yet.

Even though it needs a CLA, the camera's still a beauty. A $100.00 well spent.
