Frame counter stays at 999 - have a got a fault?

Hi Guys

My M8.2 has just arrived. All seems fine, except the frame counter. It flashes 0 when switched on then goes to 999 and stays there. Anyone know if there is a fix? I'll be pretty gutted if it's broken 🙁

Are you using a card that gives you over 999 images? I don't think the display will go higher than 999.

It's a Lexar 32GB. So is it actually telling me I have more than 999 still available? Even in JPEG + RAW? Should I just get a smaller card? It's good to know that my camera probably ain't broken!

hooah. Yeah 32gb is huge. With 4 gb on a 12 MP D300, I get 269+ photos in Raw mode, maybe 221 with Raw+Jpeg.

OK 😉 but the biggest challenge for me is getting my head round the baseplate latch being on the wrong side!

Yeah my Pentax dSLR does the same when I select jpg mode and have a 4gb card installed.

I agree with jaapv, card is too big. 32Gb, I don't think 2 batteries would cover that. I don't even use anything over 2-4 Gb anymore. Not going to put all the eggs in one basket.

With my 16GB SDHC, it takes 2 and a half batteries to fill up the card. The only advantage of using a large SD card is so that you don't have to swap cards in the middle of a shoot and risk dropping/losing it.

It's the same with mine (4gb and 8 gb cards): it first flashes 0 then 999, although i know the available capacity should be about 1100 shots (it shows 540 with a 2gb card). I was initially worried, but I finally understood that the counter would not go beyond 999...You have to live with it, it's normal (if I may say so).

If you have lost a card once to SD card failure, you'll realize what losing 1000+ images means. talk about putting all your eggs in one basket....

You have the camera upside down. It's stuck at 666 because it's cursed. There's nothing you can do. Send the camera to me asap. I'll hide it well so that no one will ever find it and get influenced by the curse. 😛

I like using 2GB cards in mine. Enouigh for two batteries, dirt cheap, and I can swap them out of the camera and leave with the computer for a while.

32GBytes. That is a tremendous amount of data. Shooting Raw+Jpeg, that is not as big as I thought. ~60 pictures per Gigabyte, will come down soon enough.
