Hi all.
I'm curious to see what developer people prefer for HP5+. I've been fond of developing it in a "cocktail" of HC-110/Rodinal ( 8ml/3ml per 500ml solution ). It seems to bring out the best of both developing agents.
I'm curious to see what other people like. I have some Finol that I'm contemplating using, but may just save that for Tri-X. I'm always looking for new and different things to try, so I'd love to see the array of developers that are out there in use.

Ilford ID-3 (old Ilford recipe) makes a very nice image of lower contrast that prints easily, with full film speed.
Perceptol 1:2 at 75 degrees ei 250 is sharp and finely detailed with a lovely smooth palette.
Of course I like Rodinal, Xtol—and HC-110 works great with HP-5+.
What is your routine with the HC-110 and Rodinal brew: speed, temp, and agitation?

"8ml/3ml"
Is that 8ml of HC-110 in undiluted syrup form, or stock solution?

For each roll of 120 film, I use 8ml HC-110; 3ml Rodianl, and the water up to 500 ml. Temp. is 68 degrees Fahrenheit ( 20 Celsius ), and develop for 11.5 minutes. I agitate continuously for the first 30 seconds, then 3 gentle agitations each minute. Water stop, then fix.
Below is an example of a shot from a roll I just developed.

Both the Rodinal and the HC-110 is in undiluted, "syrup" form.
If you do a search here on RFF, there's information on this blend. I actually got the idea from fellow RFFer charjohncarter.

I forgot to add that I shot the film at EI 320.

I've been using D-76 and have been pretty happy with it. Example here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91594. I prefer HC-110, but my local photo store didn't have any. I've got some rodinal as well that I'm afraid to try mainly because I push my HP5 to 800 or 1600. I never shoot at 400.

That's a smokin' good shot, Creagerj.
I think you can definitely use Rodinal at 1:25 with your preferred speeds, especially 800 in soft light.

Bad development in Pyrocat HD @ 320 (Pen FV + 38/1.8 I recall)
I have been using Xtol and pushing to 800-1600. However, I wanted to see what I can squeeze out of the half-frame format in terms of speed + performance.

DDX. True ISO about 650; I rate it at 400, for the tonality.

Roger, a clarification please, are you writing about the ISO of the HP5 as 650 but you rate it at 400 which is the 'box' speed or are you discussing something else relating to (one of my fave developers for Delta 3200) DD-X
thanks Jan

Dear Jan,
True ISO of HP5 in DDX is 650 or better, but although I develop it in DDX, I give an extra 2/3 stop, i.e. EI 400, by rating it at box speed. In ID-11 (true ISO 400 or so) I rate it at 320 or even 250, for the same reason: I like the tonality better that way.
Cheers,
R.

Depending on the format or ISO used I've been using the following
35mm or 120 @ IS0400 Ifosel 3 1-14 11 mins
35mm @ISO1600, 120 at ISO 1600 or 3200 Foma R9 1-100 for 1 hr stand development.
So far I've been very pleased with the results

Thank you. I'll have to run a test roll to see how I like Rodinal. It would be nice to use since I have tons of it.

HC-110, dilution H always worked wonders for me with HP5+ back when I shot it. With minimal agitation I even got wonderful results pushing to ISO 3200.
Hmmm.... a Rodinal/HC-110 mix. I've always wondered about that myself. Does it give a slight increase in film speed over straight Rodinal?
