My sample of that lens seems to be a bit unsharp if I set the focus to longer distances. For example, if the focus is set to infinity everything is slightly blurry. Closer ranges (< 2-3) seem to be fine. I am not sure, what's wrong, as this lens has quite a good reputation for sharpness. What are your experiences with that lens?

Very sharp in the center at infinty even wide open. At f5.6 it can compete with any other 35, across the field.

Sounds like there is an issue with either your lens or your camera. (a) test the camera with another lens, (b) test RF alignment at infinity, (c) do some test shots of a ruler or so, to see if the lens mis-focuses. If (b) is off, you can fix DIY.

Sorry,

Roland.

very sharp and contrasty lens normally.
That's what I hear. I have set up a link to show you what I mean. I have the impression, that everything is slightly fuzzy. It was taken at f8/125, focus is at the police van in the foreground.

The camera is ok, I do not see this with any other lens. Either it is the adapter, the lens is off, or I am too picky.

With mine infinity is actually focussing beyond infinity. When I focus carefully with the rf patch all is sharp. I guess yours may be the same.

You are not too picky. Something is wrong. And it doesn't seem to be mis-focus (or adapter), since it's uniformly un-sharp.

Is this on film ? If yes, can you check the negative with a loupe ? Like try to read the text on the "H" sign of the Bushaltestelle. Could it be a scanning problem ?

It is not a scanning problem. I have scanned many other negatives, but each time I am using this lens I get similar unsharp results if the focus is set farther than 2-3m. At close ranges it is beautifully sharp. But this is just muddy. If I examine the lens closely, it looks as if someone had taken off the front element before. It is a second hand one.

Ah, thanks for the quick reply, that was quite obvious. I heard they send the lens to Japan?

I just saw on the invoce, that I got one year guarantee on the lens, so I guess I will just send it back.
