I have been told that the Graflex film backs have issues keeping the film flat.

I have used the knob wind 6x9 version that came with my Century Graphic and the neagatives were sharp edge to edge.

Can I safely assume that if I have one that works OK then it will remain that way or is the problem intermitant and sometimes the holder works OK and sometimes not?

The procedure is key. You should best wind the film shortly before shooting, so that it is taut on the rollers in the back.

Winding the film and leaving it be for hours, days or weeks on end and the film will slip a bit on the rollers and the film will curl a bit.

Since procedure is key with Graflexes and other LF or 2X3 gear anyway, I do not find it too troubling to work like this.

Thanks for that info - makes good sense.

When I used my 6x9 Graflex back I shot within 10 minutes of winding on, no longer, hence my success.
