Contax II

I just bought my second Contax II. This one is serie G from 1938. Seems to be in a very good shape and in next days i will give it to the service point (CLA). I shot test roll of cheapest Fujicolor. Sonnar 2/50 mm seems to work quite good but there is something wrong with shutter i believe. Fortunately it is not the common problem with shutter straps, but it is something i havn't seen before.

Some frames on film are empty. Without a sign of picutre on it. On 36 frame i got around 4-5 empty frames. What could be the reason ? Seems that maybe shutter is jamming sometimes and it is not opening ? Anyone had such problem before ? Is it serious ? Or maybe it just a matter of CLA and will be easy fixed.

Hmmm, I'm thinking CLA. The shutter probably didn't even open (i.e the timing delay for the second curtain malfunctioned). Might clear up by itself, but, CLA would be better.

I had a chance to get Contax II with a 50/2 for $75 from local classifieds. Some jerk beat me to it by about an hour. 🙂

I love the look and feel of the Contax II- not to mention the lens quality! You will not be disappointed with the purchase!

I bought mine few days ago on the internet. This one is my second one. First one is serie B from 1936 and unfortunately the ribbons broke out around year ago. This second onewas listed as a ... compact camera among other plastic cameras from 90's. In description seller wrote that camera is not working ... all because self-timer lever set to ready position 🙂 ... all for ... 15 USD 🙂 My shot of the year i think 😉 Camera is in very good shape. Working smooth and quiet. All it needs is some small CLA and a small look on shutter ribbons if they are OK. All i found is a bit of dust on parts ...

$15 !!! I paid $50 for my rat which needed a total overhaul by the Kiev Techs in Ukraine .
Can't even buy a Kiev 4a for that !
Do you do your own servicing and repairs ? These camera seem hellish complicated .
I just love the feel of the Sonnar lenses !
