Firmware 2.005 up--M8

Considering it's supposed to be the last firmware update ever for the M8 I'm a bit disappointed.
I was hoping there would be a little more to it, such as manual lens setting like the M9.

Can I ask?

How do you know it's supposed to be the last firmware update?
Has this come from Leica?

Is this the beginning of the end for Leica?

No, I don't think this is the harbinger of anything with Leica. I just expected more from v2.005.
From a strictly business perspective I can understand why they only corrected the problems. But surely someone from Leica has been reading the forums and has heard what the M8 community has been asking for.
I just don't see what the point of the firmware upgrade if all the effort went to fix two very minor issues.
I suppose its also too much to hope Leica would have an paid upgrade to get the features we've all be asking for.

Oh well. I'll keep using my M8 nonetheless.

In all honesty I'm struggling to remember. I think it was from the Leica Rumours website, so obviously don't take it as gospel.

I think it's sufficiently believable. So I'll probably take the plunge get my two main lenses coded over the winter. I don't expect we'll see manual lens selection on the M8.

Indeed you won't Leica has been saying that for ages. It is just on internet forums that this idea lives. If you don't fancy paying Leica prices for coding (although they will check your lens and give you a new mount) there are plenty of third-party mount millers. ;)

Maybe its been stated prior (not wanting to re-read through all the silly fodder), but the start-up time is almost instant. I seem to recall the LED flickered more than a couple of times before applying this firmware.

fixing the shutter fault issue is minor?

bob

+1!!!

my M8 is in for repair because of this issue (happened one too many times and finally died)...

can somebody tell me if you are able to get the shot if you're in Discreet and hit Continuous by mistake? with the older firmware, not only did the camera not get the shot, but i also had to take out the battery, count to ten, etc. obviously, the moment was gone by the time i got it working.

i am trying to decide if there is any advantage to getting the shutter upgrade (only €220 more than the repair estimate  ) as far never losing a shot again when i stupidly turn it on to Continuous in my haste.

TIA!
