Hello all,
I've been reading so many great things about diafine (and some not so great things) so I've taken the plunge and decided to give it a try. I am currently waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, I want to know if high contrast is possible with this film/developer combo as opposed to what I've been using: Tri-x @ 200-400 ISO in D76 1:1. Some examples of the look i'd like to achieve are basically that Japanese high contrast, high grain look in the likes of Daido Moriyama and more recently Anders Petersen which I've linked below:

Thanks all in advance. And yes, I know it's not original to try and 'look' like other photographers I'm just mainly interested in achieving similar contrast and graininess as the above aformentioned names.
Technical info: I am using a Focomat 1C with focotar-2 Ilford multigrade paper and filters. And souping the prints in Dektol. Any help is Highly appreciated. Please have a look at my flickr and tell me what you think!

I've never tried that specific combination, and I am not sure what Anders uses, but he is one of my favorites. I always thought that his look came more during the printing stages, and not necessarily from his film and developer choice, although im sure that has a bit to do with it. I know for a fact that he doesnt print his own work for what its worth. Perhaps someone with more experience here can comment on how he gets his style.

I'm looking forward to seeing the responses. I hadn't heard of Anders Petersen. Thanks for posting this (question and link).

I didn´t heard of anderspetersen before, his pictures are excellent, thanks for the link.
Why don´t you try Neopan 1600 + D76 @800 ? I think the contrast with that combo comes close to what you want to achieve.

I'm wondering how much the contrasty lens of the Contax T3 has to do with the final result.
Interesting dude:

Diafine and Tri X @ 1600 will give you thin negs, and they can be contrasty, but you will get a better punch and nicer grain just by pushing Tri X in D76 or Rodinal. FWIW here is a shot of mine @ 1600

plus-x at 500/d-76 will get you close. the grain won't be as pronounced but pretty darn close in my opinion.

here is a sample of the plus-x look. slap a red filter on there and away you go.
