I know some lenses aren't suitable for the R-D1 because they are collapasble, so just to confirm something like this lens won't be safe to use, right?

My friend has one spare but don't want to damage anything. Can the lens be locked in the 'open' position?
Cheers

Interesting. When you say it 'works' do you mean you can collapse it OK?

+1 for collapsible Cron and Summitar being ok on my RD1s. However, sometimes I seem to feel some resistance when collapsing, presumably from the metering cell, in which case I tilt the Summitar lens down a bit (it came to me a little loose) and slowly back it inside, no problems.

The Industar lens can be locked in the extended position so it wouldn't be a problem to use.

yes, it collapses just fine, without resistance.

Just to make sure: you can use it locked, but do not collapse your Industar. It reaches much further into the camera than Joe's Elmar-M or porktaco's Summicron.

My Elmar 50/2.8 in M mount (1960s version) collapses safely on my R-D1.
Same for my Canon 50/3.5 in LTM.

My collapsable summicron m (circa 1954) and CV 50mm Heliar collapsable do their thing right well on my RD1s.

You can always put a plastic cable tie around the barrel of the lens to prevent it from collapsing too far.
