Great city, I wish I could spend more time there myself! If it's a small p&s then sure, but I've been there with only a Zorki, j-8 and lomo lubitel. I had so much fun I didn't even think about digital and certainly did not regret it.
The digi would be the Nikon D700. As of now I'm not going to take it, just wanted to see if anyone had a legitimate reason why I should. I have plenty of 120 and some 220 I want to shoot up so it's no worry about carrying the Hassy and M3, I've got my rhythm down pretty good. The M4 is going, but as a backup body. I still have some Tri-X 400 in there I might just finish up too.
Been there twice in the last year. Did film only. I brought 2 35mm cameras the first time and left one in the hotel as a backup.
Digital is nice for quick posts, I used my iPhone for that. Paris lends itself well to B&W.
Cameras gain weight in direct proportion to time walking around. If I brought the big gun, I'd wouldn't want to carry it on one shoulder.
I also recommend film only. A rangefinder and a 'Blad will take care of everything you'll want to shoot. I shot 35 and 25mm rangefinder lenses while there in May, and a Rolleiflex, and didn't feel like I was missing anything.
2 rolls of 220: AGFA Optima 400, Kodak Plus-X Pan
6 rolls of 120: Ilford- XP1-400, 100 Delta, Pan F Plus (2), Rollei Pan 25, AGFA Optima 100.
6 rolls of 135: Rollei Pan 25 (4), Ilford FP4 Plus 125, AGFA APX 100.
No E-6, so I should be able to start developing everything when my new chemicals get here tomorrow!
leica & Tri-X is a nice combo. as "le vrai rdu" told you go to the park at the north east, it's a nice park with a nice point of view on top of the rocks, it's a little bit crowdy saturday & sunday. Light form that spot is good in summer morning.
