Hi,
i have done some research on this lens and have not been able to find as many images as i would like to. I was wondering for those to have this lens, will you be able to post some images of this lens? Would like to see how it performs.. Thanks!

This is my most favorite lens for Leica M. If I have to choose only one lens to keep, this will be the one. This lens has both the old charm and modern technology within a tiny package, and often under appreciated against faster lenses.

This was published in a lifestyle magazine in China with other 9 photographers around the world. An editor loved this photo on my flickr (although it's not my usual style) and convinced the others to accept B/W photo although the article was supposed to be color photos only.

As a previous owner of that lens, I concur. It's bassically as highly corrected as you can possibly get and still have the "classic" look. Think of a lens with classic rendering but with less flare, higher contrast and slightly sharper than classic rendering lenses like the earlier Elmars or Summicrons. The current Summicron is better corrected, mainly in the outer field, with a little more sharpness across the frame but is slightly more prone to secondary reflections in adverse lighting due to the high number of plano surfaces it's design. Unfortunately, the ergonomics of the Elmar-M make it slightly less convenient to use. If they put it in a mount similar to the Summicron, it would be perfect. Alas, that ship has sailed since the lens has been replaced with the 50/2.5 Summarit.

Thanks for your nice comments. The last two are scanned wet prints. This lens and TriX (I push to 1600 most of time) give me a lot of freedom in darkroom as well.
As you can see, you don't see too many people participating to the thread with their images. The thread would have been filled with images by now if it was for other well known glasses. Probably many people think this lens is too slow and the ergonomics to be problematic. I personally have no problem with F2.8 and handling. Maybe because I'm used to even older collapsible lenses. The handling a lot better than older Elmar 3.5 and 2.8, and it's very quick to use.
I can walk around with the camera in my coat pocket, pull out the lens and shoot, then scram. And this lens is very resistant to flare and you don't need hood all the time. That contributes to smaller overall size and low profile in real use.

Coelacanth, you're proving that an f/2.8 lens can work wonderfully in available light settings.
I've always felt that the 50 Elmar-M has all the character of the 50 Summilux Asph but simply not the maximum aperture. It's a great lens.

I love this lense - the perfect complement to a bohemoth, ultra-fast 50...
It's so versatile and TINY, with such a great signature, I really don't understand why they discontinued it...

What I really enjoy most about using this lens is its very short focus throw. It's quite fast to use. Plus, in handling, the aperture ring is just right, too.

Heartily agree about the focus throw. Really makes it fast to use (assuming it's extended). I do wish they had a tab on it, though. That's my ONLY complaint with it. I'll never sell mine.
EDIT: actually, I have one other issue with it, namely, the aperture settings not being consistent: 2.8-8 it's two clicks per stop; 8-11-16 it's full stop clicks. I understand the reasoning, but in use it can (and has) cause me to double-check to make sure I have the right f-stop set as I don't always instinctively keep track like with other lenses.

Tis a Tessar. It is a great lens with a distinct signature with lovely Bokeh. The right mix of old and new done by Leica.
Unfortunately I sold mine, and I miss it. My Elmar got bumped by the CV 50/3.5 and CV 50/2.0 Nickel Heliars. This glass also has the perfect combination of old and new, modern and retro,
The fast focus is really due to the small diameter. The degrees of rotation is no different than on my 75 Lux, but the Lux is a fat lens and the amount of distance taveled is a lot greater due to the larger circumferance. To me smaller/slower lenses always focus faster and for street shooting I'd always wanna shoot with a Cron over a Lux. Always a good reason to have a different kinda speed via handling.
