Just for record, AF sensor windows look like on Chinon's early SLR AF (standalone, that is) lens(es).
upd: if you will enjoy it more on shelf than hanging from wrist or neck, just shelve it, no problem.

Thanks to everyone for their comments and advise. As I was reading over your posts, I thought about the way that I choose the cameras that I buy. I buy them if they are interesting to me and functional. I have never bought a camera solely for asthetic reasons. If I did so, there would be no room for me to live in my house. 😀
So the Infrafocus will go into the on deck lineup and I will be shooting with it in due time.

Even if it were a NIB Kriegsmarine Barnack Leica or a black paint Nikon SP or anything, it should be used. Doesn't matter how unique or normal or new it is. It was built to make images.

Personally, I would have no use for this camera, but I make my living from photography and all my equipment is chosen very carefully to accomplish certain goals. I see no reason to use it just because someone gave it to you unless it is a camera you WANT to use. I would put it away or sell it. It may be a perfectly capable instrument but I would have no use for it so in my eyes it would just be one more piece of junk to deal with. Perhaps there is a Chinon collector who would really appreciate it. Or, if you just like it, then do whatever you like with it! The notion that you should use it because cameras should be used seems bizarre to me. It's just a thing, an object. Is it somehow wrong not to watch your TV just because you own it?

My father bought our first colour television to coincide with the 1976 Summer Olympics so that we could enjoy the spectacle in all its glory.
It was a memorable time for us, but thereafter he did not allow any of the family to use it for watching black and white movies 😱 - What a nutter!
OP - do what makes you feel happy.
(but if you use it then, as it is capable of taking colour film, I suggest that you do not soil it with monochrome!)

Put some film in it and take some pictures; see what they look like. I'm curious about everything. I do the same thing with my Vitessa, my Super Ricohflex, my Bessa R, Bessa R3M, Canon Elan 7, Fujica 705. If i could get some film for my Kodak A-3 Autographic I would shoot that one too at least once, just to see what the pictures looked like.

Sorry, this is a non-argument. EITHER it's a museum piece, in which case you don't want to scratch it up, OR it's an old, cheap camera, and who cares?
Hint: If everyone used everything until it was worn out, there'd never be any museum pieces. This is especially true of cheap junk that no-one cares about.
