Those of you with 'flexes - can you buy off-brand filters for the 3.5 Xenotar lens ( bay 2 )? If so, what are some decent ones.

I'd like to get a yellow and red ( for IR photography ), but the original ones are not so easy to find separately.

Bayonet 2 is the most difficult (and expensive) size to find because fewer cameras of this type were made. Green, yellow-green, and orange are useful filters.

You can also find Bay II to Series VI adapters. That way you can use cheap Series VI filters and hoods. I might still have the Bay II and a Bay I to Series V.

I assume that you can't use the lens hood with that, though. It's a thought, as I guess you wouldn't have as much need for the hood with some filters.

You can find cheap Bay-2 to 52mm adapters too if you don't plan to use filters frequently (and have a heap of 52mm filters in a closet). No lens hood with the adapter naturally.

I'm lazy and just keep the 52mm filter in front of the taking lens with my left hand fingers.

I just went through this w/ my Rolleiflex E3. The Bay II prices are surreal. I saw some Bay II non OEM filters on fleabay recently for $20 I think, but they're not coated if that makes any difference. The most inexpensive alternative that I found was to get a Bay II to 49mm adapter. You can use the inexpensive 49mm filters, and if you get a hood that isn't much bigger than the filter it doesn't obstruct the taking lens. After all that, I finally bit the bullet and bought a 'flex K2 filter and a non OEM hood from Amazon.com of all places. Let me know if you are interested in the Bay II to 49mm adapter.

My Rollei 3.5E Planar came with the orange filter and that is all I have. I was tempted to get a Bay II to 39mm filter adapter that some sellers are offering to use my Leica filters but I don't fancy taking off the hood.

Call camera shops. Most have some they're willing to get rid of because they don't sell too often. Better yet, try to find a filter set -- you'll often see them in leather cases, sometimes with the rolleinar attachments.

Yeah, I'm not too keen about taking the hood off, either.

Steve, thanks for the offer, but I'm going to try another route for now. I may just hold the thing in front of the lens, like Mablo.

I saw on Friday a bay II infrared filter in Casanova Foto in Barcelona (the Ronda Universitat branch). It was in a box of 100s of bay II filters, some with cases, some without.

I can't find any mention on their website, but that's not so surprising - I'm sure that they don't know half of their stock.

If you are interested, it may be worth giving them a call:

Casanova Fotografía

I guess it would cost 20-30 euros plus postage. You can email them from their website, click contactános in the top right.
