Simple enough, do you find the 1/3rd click stops on the ZM lenses help or hinder your shooting style?
for those who have have a mixed bag of lenses (cv, ziess and leica), do you find it difficult or easy to jump from 1/2 stops to 1/3 stops?

It is totally irrelevant to me.
Yeah, I could care less...

Fine with me. Shooting film , I would bracket "tween stops" (between the half-stops), to fine-tune for that perfect exposure. Sill do with digital today.

I slightly prefer half-stop clicks, but it doesn't matter.

I really dislike the 1/3 stops. For B&W it makes absolutely no difference. Just gets in the way for me.

I like it, but prefer the 1/2 stops on current Leica glass a bit more.
Same with the shutter stops - full stops for M4 vs 1/2 stops on M9, preferring the 1/2 stops.
What I don't like is the mix of 1/3 for aperture and 1/2 for shutter when trading off exposure values.

I don't have a digital M yet, but I do wonder if the halfstop shutter speeds will make a difference down the line.

I'm OK with it. 1/2 stop increments are easier for blind adjustments, but 1/3 stops are especially nice with metered cameras. Basically +1 on the following:

I like the extra control, as I'll often use a -1/3 or -2/3 tweak. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not a huge difference either way. If you have mixed lenses, just remember to count the clicks appropriately.![]()

I shoot b/w film only so I don't need 1/3. When I got my C-Biogon 35/2.8, which is my only 1/3 stop lens, I thought I wouldn't like it. But I'm finding it's not really getting in my way. I'm just treating the lens as if it didn't have click stops (like Jupiter-8), and I just let my guess-meter decide where it stops.

I always thought it would be a great idea -- some of my LF lenses have it -- but when I actually got ZM lenses I found that it made far less difference than I expected.

1/3 clickstops are a solution in search of a problem.

Truth is beauty
I don't care at all about that... I use halves and thirds on lenses with whole stop clicks only... About lenses and aperture, I'd really like if all lenses and cameras were able to lock aperture as my Hassy... Sometimes I find aperture setting can be -in some lenses- unintentionally changed...

Zeiss Ikon ZM has third stops exposure compensation too. It's a perfect match, and its all part of their marketing plan to get you to go all Zeiss.

Whoops, no "I don't care" choice available. Over time I have gotten used to 1/3 stop intervals, so I'm good, either way.

Third stops make sense to me... because I think half stops are too precise.
So I'll think something like "this isn't quite f/4" or "it's looking that side of f/5.6" and adjust accordingly.

Not so much 'too precise' as 'too far away'. This is EXACTLY why I use 1/3 stops with Linhofs, etc. But then I found it made less difference with 35mm than with MF/LF, where you're taking a lot more time and trying to be as precise as possible.

I prefer full stop click only. Makes it easier to keep track of aperture value and shutter speed. I am considering eliminating the 1/2 stops on my Noktons when I disassemble them the next time. Having full stops only allows more precise aperture control between the clicks.

Quick question. On most of lenses, you can eliminate the clicks buy filling the grooves with something, right? What's the best material to fill the gap?
