expensive adapters?

i want to know what's the real difference between the Voigtlander adapter (screw mount to M mount) and an adapter that costs 11$ on ebay.

i just went to my local store and for type II they asked an incredible price.

aren't both just some metal rings? what adapters do you have...?

i really want to support Cosina for their great accessible products, but i think this is too much.

any advice on this? did you try the no name adapters?
 
I have a couple of the cheap chinese ones and a couple of the voigtlanders. The Voigtlanders are beautifully made. One of the cheap ones I have is well made too, but the other is very crudely made. I've never used it because the threads looked so bad I was afraid it would damage a lens. So, with the expensive ones, you're guaranteed a god one, with the cheap ones you may get good, you may get crap. Its a gamble.
 
My Chinese ones have actually worked quite well... I also have a Leitz adapter that won't mount on the bayonet/camera side at all. Go figure.
 
leica adapters are all used, i don't think they make them any longer.
very good quaility.

cv adapters are excellent quality, never had a problems with any.

i have stayed away from no name adapters, although 2 lenses that i bought used had them attached and they worked fine.

for a few extra bucks i figure why take a chance attaching a cheap filter to an expensive lens?
 
I have also found the Chinese adapters are not made to the same tolerance as the Voigtlander and Leitz adapters. The thickness can be a little off for a 50mm lens, but incorrect thickness would be very bad on a wide angle or telephoto lens.
 
They have to be made properly in many respects . If not the proper thickness, focus will be off. If the bayonet in not perfect, you can screw up the camera or it will not mount.

Buy a CV or Leica used. Pay the money!

Thickness tolerance is my main reason for paying the extra $ for a Voigtländer adapter (and really, I think 50 € is OK). I understand how a thickness deviation will ruin focus on a wide-angle more than on a 50 mm, but why should it be a problem for a tele? Lower DOF?
 
yea 50$ is ok, but that wasn't the price the seller told me. as i check their site it seems that he actually got it all wrong, it was the adapter for Leica M to Micro 4/3 that was 200$. it seemed silly for me to pay more for the adapter than for the Russian lens i was going to use it with.

i see that there is a specific adapter for every focal length. and they only have the 35/135. i want to use it with a 50mm industar on a bessa r2a.

as i recall at cameraquest there weren't those different option for type II. any advice on what adapter should i go with?

I have two original LTM->M Voigtlander. I have not any problems with many many lenses (mine or borrowed). Focus is always accurate on every focal length.
Some time ago I heard that some cheaper "hand-made" adapter not focus correctly.
I think better option is used Voigtlander adapter then "hand-made".

As far as I can see, they offer the type II adapter for all 3 focal length combos, but for the Industar, wou will probably want the type I (because of the infinity lock), available only in 50/75.

It doesn't matter on your Bessa R2A anyway, because you set the framelines manually.
