Leica SL (first version) AF adapters for Canon mount lenses?????????

I was always a skeptic and never trusted adapters with any electronics in them other than the Olympus FT to mFT adapters. On my SL typ 601, I used primarily Leica R lenses, which were almost being given away in 2011 after the R system was discontinued (I remember my local dealer had a Leicaflex SL and three lenses on consignment ... "$750 for the lenses, and I'll throw the body in free."). Those days are long gone ... lots of people have discovered how excellent all that R-gear is/was.

Yes I still kick myself for not buying more rare and wonderful lenses back when film was ending and digital just beginning. Had only I foreseen the coming mirrorless revolution which had the effect of intensifying the demand for good (not to mention great) old lenses. Like you, I also have an Olympus FT to mFT electronic adapter and still use it with a couple of very good lenses including a Leica-Panasonic 35mm f1.4 (50mm equivalent) which is bigger than some of my M43 bodies. 🙂

I recently bought a Leica R 28mm pc for my SL2-S and S1r and since I had several other Urth adapters bought one of theirs to suit.
Unfortunately it focussed infinity at 3m on the scale.
This lens uses floating elements, so an adapter nearly a millimetre too short won't cut it.
I can't afford the Leica R adapter so I'll try a Novoflex next.
Shame, first Urth adapters that's proven to be useless.
Yes I know they are often a little short to allow for thermal changes, but this is awful.

Will the Urth allow you to take the R mount side of the adapter off? If so see what it looks like underneath? I've shimmed a number of adapters with copper tape to get the adapter the proper thickness. Just keep shimming until the infinity setting on the lens is actual infinity.

Edit: I had a Novoflex adapter for my GFX. It was too thin. The 7Artisans Adapter was dead on focused at infinity, the second picture shows the same lens, optically focused at infinity with the Novoflex adapter. The Elmar was optically focused at infinity and the feeler gauges show how off the adapter was. I eventually shimmed the Novoflex to be accurate. If you shim use your widest angle lens to shim it as it is the most sensitive to small position errors.

For L mount I use a $15 Fotasy R to L mount adapter which works fine. Can't recall if I shimmed it or not but can check.

The fit and finish of rayqual adapters are second to none.imo. quality made in Japan and not those those cheap MIC rubbish that wobbles. It's not af but at least better served by a quality adapter

I have done that as well, I just think this is too far out of spec, a full millimetre of shims is a lot, and it might look like a dog's dinner...
I'll look anyway.

Had a look this morning and shimmed it to correct infinity.
There is no lip at the body/mount joint so after checking focus I checked for light leaks, it was dreadful, so I had to cover the joint with electrical tape. Hardly a long term solution.
So I ordered a Novoflex and we'll see how that goes.

Novoflex adapter arrived, perfect infinity focus as stock standard, no shimming required. Worth the price I reckon.
