I just used the Arista E6 kit with great results! The pictures really tell the story but easy to do, not expensive at all, no bad smell...not much at least.

My GF walked in the kitchen and said, "It looks like a meth lab in here!" to which I replied "What do you know about a meth lab!"

Hamilton beach 18 quart. I needed to play with it a while but I could get a solid 104ish with no real issue. I found the big problem was getting the chemicals to the correct temps and keeping them there. I found about a 10' float but in use it was not a big deal. I measured prior to each chemical and found that they were within a few degrees of my 105 goal.

I am not sure how exact it needs to be but I figure 2-3 degrees is OK especially since i was hand mixing the tank. Temp had to float.

I got a slight blue cast in the shadows but it might have been the film.

Cool, David! Congratulations! Nice colors...

The blue in the shadows is normal: those zones lack -in a simple visual comparison- the yellow tone present in direct sunlight zones... With a warming filter you give the shadows a more natural look...

Cheers,

Juan

Very encouraging, I'll have to get an E-6 kit if I want to use all the 14 rolls of Velvia 100f I have, as there's no local slide processing.

The E-6 sheet film I have, on the other hand, is a little more daunting...

That crockpot idea is brilliant.
Just make sure that you or anybody else *never* cook food in it again.

Buy a yellow skull-and-bones sticker and put it all over. 🙂

Funny. My landlord made a "meth lab" joke/comment to me. I figured she had probably seen my collection of a about a dozen photo chemicals. That is a good idea for temp control. You've probably dedicated that crockpot to exclusive photo use (?).

edit: I've found that the next best place to buy photo supplies (besides a photo store) is a kitchen supply house.

I did some figuring here:

Locally I pay $9.76 per roll, unmounted for 120 or 35.

The E6 kit was $76 to about $5 shipping so $80. I am 95% sure I can get 50 rolls out of the kit so that is $1.60 per roll! Even is I were to get 25 rolls per kit that would be $3.20 a roll.

The crockpot was $32 and most of the other stuff I had on hand except the JOBO 600ml bottles.

The trick to this process will be to use my large JOBO tanks that hold 5 rolls. The time to set this all up, mix the chemicals, get the temps correct makes it a PITA for 2 rolls and not worth it.

Next week I will do 3 sets of 4 rolls per tank for a total of 12 with one quart of chemicals total. That is 50% over the "ability" of the chemicals but I think it will be fine. I might try one roll after that with the same chemicals to see how it does for color shift and such with exhausted chemicals.

As luck would have it I have 20 rolls of very expired provia that will be fun to mess with!

No one need worry...this is a photo crap crockpot only!

For you, yes.

But unless you remembered to pulverize it, when you finally get rid of it, someone else could buy it from thrift shop or garage/yard sales.

And when they cook meals in it, well.. I'm sure I don't need to spell it out.

Just saying that it's good to err on the careful side.
