Along with my M8, I have an 18mm, 28mm and 50mm—and I tell myself I’ll “be done” when I add a 90mm.

Heh. I just really feel more comfortable with a 75 on the M8. I could see a 90 in my future when I eventually get a FF rangefinder.

My lens set looks similar in number, though I go down to 21 and up to 135.
The crop factor of the M8, which I use with a film ZI, definitely induces "lens creep". I bought a 28 cron, really just for the M8, and would like to get a CV 15 for the same reason. 15-28-50 being approximate efov of 21-35-75. So I really have two sets of lenses because of the M8.

I'm aspiring to get to this point, but there is a big GAS bubble in the way.
I have an M8 and a bunch of great lenses, but not quite at the focal lengths I want. I'd love to use my 21mm ZM as a 21mm lens, among others (including a UC Hexanon) and I'm on the edge of getting an M9. While the M9 would be a fantastic camera I'm just wondering if it is worth the $3k that I will have to shell out after the sale of my M8.
I rationalize it as the M9 getting me back to just 4 lenses that I use on my M4 as well, while I have extras with intermediate focal lengths that I use for the M8. With decisions like that to make, life could be worse, of course!

phil: i haven't been following M8 resale prices or M9 new prices. but is the M8 resale price only $3 below the M9 new price? (not doubting, just asking. ha: in fact, hoping because that may encourage some current M8 owners to sell and move on to the M9.)

I'm going to be purchasing the M9 under the student purchase program, so all I have to come up with is about $3k and change. 😀

Congratulations Mr. Barker - unless you are too embarassed to post an update, you have successfully completed the second day of our program.

Remember, the key to being fulfilled by what you already have, is not to think about the ZM21 Biogon. Say with us: "I do not need a wide angle lens. It distorts architecture, is unflattering for portraits, and captures landscapes indiscriminately". As we discussed at your last session, there may be shots you could only get with a wider lens, but you just have to learn to let those shots go..... Let them go....Let them go......

15-28-50 is my lens set-up for the M8. i like it so far. for film, 35-50-90. 90 on the M8 feels tight to me, 75 would be better. "lens creep" for sure.

2 35's i regret selling: uc-hex and biogon (f2). the uc-hex went to a great fm'r so it's got a good home. the biogon not so much - wish i could get it back.
