I have had some problems today scanning five b&w films that I developed. I have scanned about 350 films on the scanner before and have not had this problem until today.
Every once in a while the computer seems to drop communcations with the scanner, resulting in an error message and the Epson Scan application closing. The scanner keeps on making a continuous sound, but it dosen't sound like it normaly does when scanning. The workarround was to turn the scanner off and on and restart Epson Scan. Rebooting the computer did not make the problem go away any better than just restarting the scanner.
This happened at least once for every roll of film, but sometimes, it happened three or four times in a row, without a single frame beeing scanned.
The USB connection seems fine, the hub between the scanner and computer has power. Nothing has changed in this setup for at least six months. I have the latest driver/software from Epson. Well, actually, what has changed is the endless updates to Windows that install by themself once a week (or more often). Could this be the problem? I have a Windows 7 64-bit installation.
Has anyone else had similar problems? Of course, it could also be the hardware of the scanner that's gone bad...
