I have an 8 inch mortar of hard green stone, with 6 inch pestle, made in Thailand. I use it for crushing spices and such in the kitchen.

I'm guessing mine is much like yours
I use it for crushing spice, making pastes, etc and on a fairly frequent basis (a couple of times a week) the more time that passes the less i use the gadgets in my kitchen and the more i stick to a couple of good knives and the mortar.

I have a wood which used for grinding black peppers, a marble for garlic, a clay which I dont use, ang a large wood for making casava cake.

Me too. It's the best. Get one of these if you're going to get one.

Just realize you'll have to hit the weights if you want to move it.

The pestle could double as a sap in case of burglary.

I have an old wooden mortar and pestle which I use to crush spices and to make pesto. It was a gift... and it does get frequent use.

Why would I reply to a question like this one?

I've got 2 - one white marble and small, the other wooden and larger - use them a few times a year - also use it to ride... because I'm a witch !!

I actually asked because while reading in the Film forum, someone mentioned using one to crush up some ingredients for making Caffenol film developer. I realized that I have one too and got curious who else here has one.

I have one. It was a gift. I think I've used it one or twice. I find it much easier to use a food processor or spice grinder.
