I couldn't bring myself to order a genuine Leica hood for my DR Summicron but had seen some generally favorable comments regarding this guy's Chinese clones. While I don't like to buy Chinese other than food the price was too good. Arrived today with a plastic lens cap and screwed in perfectly. What was pleasing was the finish as well as the fit and the solid nature of the metal. I thought it would be thin and not sturdy but it appears quite robust.
I haven't tried any of his other products but if this is an example, I just might.

The best camera is one that still works!
Heavystar have some useful items ... I got a lens board for my Graphic from them a while ago and the service as well as the board itself were first class.

Ditto. 39 and 43mm vented hoods at bargain prices.
Probably the metal comes from decomissioned Soviet sub reactor cores, but even if they fog the film a bit
,$8 for a Heavystar is a lot better than $80 for a Zeiss.

Does anyone know if his 43mm hood work with the Nokton 40mm f/1.4?

For the price his hoods look OK. One of hoods I received had fingermarks on blackening which seemed poorly made with spray paint. I'm fifty/fifty with this hoods.

For me, a lens hood is the ultimate in simple, functional photo gear. It has always wound me up that Leica and Zeiss charge so much for theirs. Yeah, I know. Margins, profits, what-the-market-will-bear. Yadda yadda yadda. It's a flippin' lens hood. One step up from a toilet paper tube and duct tape. I buy all my lens hoods/caps from Heavystar these days. I love that he sells the cap-on-the-hood combinations. For me, it is really the most sensible solution.

I'm a regular customer for hoods and step up adaptors.

I agree with Ben. You wouldn't mind if the Leica hoods were well designed but most of them are rubbish. The only really decent one they make is the Summicron 35 rectangular job and that's now $115!

Has anyone tried his LTM adapters? I've got a Summitar screw mount that I want to try on my M4. I ordered one from Fotodiox via Amazon and had to return it as it was incapable of showing only the 50mm frame lines. Sherry had told me to not get any of that Chinese "junk" but DAG said he thought the Chinese adapters were fine. Fotodiox's was not.

I use one of his 43mm hoods with the ZM Biogon-C. No problems whatsoever.

Another nod for heavystar. I've got a 39mm hood and cap on my Summicron DR, and just ordered a hood for my Summicron-C 40mm (with the series 5.5 adapter). Ships fast and the quality of the products is just fine. Plus you don't worry about losing a cap or denting a hood (if they can be dented - build quality seems more than adequate) when you're out in the field.

Just saw this Summicron hood- I'll be curious to hear if it works with 39mm filters and no vignetting.
